The Phlebotomy Technician training program at Hennepin County Medical Center is a very hands on program that is designed to prepare students to be effective Phlebotomists.

This program runs for 12 weeks. Some of the topics that will be covered include medical terminology, anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system, venipuncture techniques, arterial puncture techniques, skin puncture techniques, specimen processing, safety, and legal concerns.

Instruction for this course will be a mixture of lectures, lab demonstrations, technical evaluations and clinical experience.

The clinical experience begins in an outpatient setting. After four weeks, students will spend at least four hours per day drawing blood in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Students will work with all types of patients and learn techniques for a variety of blood draws.
