This program will prepare individuals for employment in Pennsylvania as a phlebotomist who performs capillary puncture and venipuncture. The program consists of 48 hours of classroom instruction that includes topics such as anatomy, blood components, specimen collection and venipuncture technique. Students will also participate in a 100 clinical hours that must be completed over a three month period.
Individuals who are interested in applying to this program must be prepared to take a physical exam, show immunization records, complete a drug screen and criminal record check and show a valid driver’s license. Students must also show proof of insurance or sign a medical waiver.

As an entry level phlebotomist, individuals will be prepared to collect and handle blood specimens for testing in hospitals, physician’s offices and other healthcare settings.
Students who successfully complete this program will also be eligible to take the national examination.
This program is made up of 12 credit hours of classroom instruction, lab experiences and a practicum. Students can complete this program in one semester. Courses include Basic Life Support, Clinical Phlebotomy and Clinical Phlebotomy Seminar.
This phlebotomy program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
Community College of Beaver County

This is a six credit hour program that can be completed in one semester. The program includes an Introduction to Medical Laboratory course that includes 45 hours of lecture and 45 hours of lab exercises. Students will study topics such as laboratory safety, infection control, ethics, basic instrumentation and the collection, transportation and processing of specimens. The program also includes a two credit, 100 hour clinical. During this phase of training, students will learn venipuncture, capillary puncture and specimen processing.
Upon successful completion of this program students will be eligible to take the National ASCP registry exam and work as an entry-level phlebotomist.
Community College of Philadelphia
Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Certificate Program

The Community College of Philadelphia offers a Phlebotomy Certificate Program. This program meets the approval of standards set forth by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
This phlebotomy program can be completed in one semester. The program can be broken up into three phases which include two hours of lecture, three hours of laboratory exercises and eight hours of a clinical rotation each week. The clinical rotation will take place in a local hospital laboratory or outpatient facility.
Individuals who wish to enroll in this program must have a high school diploma or GED, complete a physical exam, immunizations, criminal record check and drug screening and must also have verification of medical insurance.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be eligible to sit for the PBT (ASCP) Certification examination.
Delaware County Community College

The phlebotomy program at Fortis is a combination program that also includes training in ECG and Lab Assistant skills. This combination training program will prepare individuals to work in a hospital, physician’s office or medical laboratory. Individuals will be prepared to work alongside physicians by operating ECG machines, drawing blood and other specimens and completing lab work to test specimens for diagnosis and treatment.
This program will provide students with the proper training they need for entry-level work as a phlebotomist. Training will include classroom lectures as well as lab experiences and exercises.

Harrisburg Area Community College

Harrisburg Area Community College offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program. Students who successfully complete this program will be eligible to sit for the American Society of Clinical Pathologists Phlebotomist Certification examination and will be awarded a diploma.
The phlebotomy program is an 18 credit hour program that can be completed in two semesters. Students must complete general education courses in Anatomy & Physiology, Software for Business, Communication and Allied Health. Major courses include a four credit phlebotomy program and a 2 credit phlebotomy clinical.
The total cost for this program is $4,000 - $5,000. This cost includes tuition, application fee and textbooks. Additional costs such as CPR certification, drug screening, uniforms, background checks, physical exams and certification examination are not included in the total cost but may be eligible for reimbursement.
Lackawanna College

This program can be completed over a course of 17 weeks and includes 200 hours of training. Classes are held on Monday and Wednesday from 8am – 2:30pm. Students will also participate in lab exercises and a clinical rotation. Clinical rotations are offered Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am and 4pm.

Montgomery County Community College offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program in Blue Bell and Pottstown, Pennsylvania.
This phlebotomy program can be completed in just one semester. It will train and prepare students to safely draw and handle blood specimens, test and analyze blood specimens, and effectively communicate with patients and staff. The program will also prepare students to take the national certification examination.
This 15 week program is broken up into two phases consisting of classroom instruction, lab experiences and a clinical experience. During the first ten weeks students will participate in classroom and laboratory instruction on Fridays from 9am – 4pm. During the last five weeks students will complete 100 hours of an off-campus clinical experience. The clinical will take place Monday through Friday for a total of 20 hours per week.
Phlebotomy Institute of Central PA

The Phlebotomy Institute of Central PA is located in Lemont, Pennsylvania and offers a Phlebotomy Program.
This phlebotomy program includes 96 hours of classroom and hands-on training. The first 36 hours of training will include classroom instruction that is led by qualified medical professionals. They will instruct students in the safety standards, regulations and phlebotomy techniques that are necessary for a successful career. Classes are held two nights a week for six weeks and will include 20-30 students and 5-6 instructors.
The second phase of the program will include 60 hours of hands-on training in a local laboratory or physician’s office. Students will be trained in how to collect blood by using venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures as well as how to safely handle, transport and analyze the blood specimens.
This program will prepare students to take the national certification exam.
Phlebotomy Training Center

The Phlebotomy Training Center, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, offers a Phlebotomy Training Program. This is a specialized trade school and one of the oldest phlebotomy schools in the USA.
The training center offers two levels of phlebotomy training. The Basic Phlebotomy program includes 30 hours of didactic instruction as well as 30 hours of clinical practice. Students who enroll in this program will take classes two nights a week for one month. Classes are 3.5 hours each. Following classroom instruction, students will complete 30 hours of clinical training during the day at a local hospital or clinic.
During the course of this program students will be trained in phlebotomy procedures such as venipuncture and capillary puncture. They will be able to perform these practices on anyone from newborns to adult patients.
Reading Area Community College

This program will prepare students to become phlebotomy technicians and will qualify them to work in a hospital, laboratory, physician’s office or other healthcare settings. Students will primarily be trained in collecting and handling blood as well as performing EKG’s.
The first phase of this program will consist of classroom training that will involve basic medical courses and a word processing course. The second phase of this phlebotomy program will include an intensive clinical training. This is a 240 hour clinical that students will participate in at Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
The tuition for this program is $4,945. An additional cost of approximately $500 should be expected for books and supplies.
Venango College - Clarion University

Training includes terminology, anatomy and physiology, blood collections procedures, specimen hands-on practice and techniques to perform puncture methods.
Once students complete the classroom instruction hours and lab exercises they will then complete a 100 hour clinical practice in al local hospital or physician’s office.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be eligible to take the National Phlebotomy Certification Examination to gain entry-level work as a phlebotomist.
