ABC Training Center

Programs Offered: EKG/Phlebotomy Tech Program

ABC Training Center offers a combined EKG and Phlebotomy Tech program. The center also offers a shortened, EKG-only and Phlebotomy-only program. These programs are offered in the Bronx, New York.

The EKG and Phlebotomy combination program is taken as an eight week course, with classes being held during the week and on Saturdays. The tuition for this course is $1,040.



Students who do not wish to become EKG certified may choose to take the Phlebotomy-only course. This is a four week program that offers courses during the day and evening. Each month courses alternate between the day and evening program, making scheduling easy and convenient to fit students schedules. The tuition for the Phlebotomy Tech program is $625.

Hostos Community College is located in the Bronx and it offers a Phlebotomy Technician program that will lead to certification.

Tuition for the program at Hostos is $995 and it does not include the cost of books and test fees. Students may choose to take this course as a weekday or weekend course and both courses are a total of 80 hours. The weekday course holds classes Monday and Wednesday from 5pm – 9pm. Students will complete 20 sessions over a two month period. The weekend course holds classes on Saturday from 9am – 2pm. Students will complete 16 sessions over a five month period.

Students will be trained in vacuum method for venous blood withdrawal and autolet blood withdrawal for testing glucose levels. Students will also gain the skills and knowledge needed to properly use a hemogloginometer to obtain hemoglobin levels. Students will be prepared to identify and label laboratory equipment, blood specimens and perform other lab procedures.



Niagara County Community College

Niagara County Community College is located in Sanborn, New York and offers a Phlebotomist program that will lead to certification.

This program will include both classroom instruction as well as a clinical practicum. This practicum will take place in a hospital, diagnostic laboratory, blood bank or medical office. Classroom instruction will include human anatomy and physiology, phlebotomy, medical ethics, OSHA regulations, patient communication, medical terminology and patient care. Students will be required to complete at least 30 credit hours. Typically the program is completed in two semesters.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will earn a certificate in Phlebotomy and will be prepared to collect blood samples through venipunctures, capillary punctures, skin sticks, and arterial punctures as well as properly transport and analyze the samples.



Stony Brook University

SUNY Jefferson Community College

Jefferson Community College is a part of the SUNY school system in New York and is located in Watertown. This community college offers a Phlebotomy program that will lead to a certificate of completion. Upon successful completion of the program, students will also be eligible to sit for the national examination to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician.

This program can be completed in less than two months and it includes 88 hours of training. Training will include 48 hours of classroom training as well as a 40 hour externship. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6pm to 9:30pm.

The total cost of this program is $2995, which includes tuition, books, course supplies, the externship and the course certificate of completion.



SUNY Orange County Community College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

SUNY Orange is located in Middletown, New York. This college offers a Phlebotomy course that is approved by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. To enroll in this program students must attend a pre-admissions orientation, have a high school diploma or GED, complete a physical exam and provide proof of immunizations, and pass a drug screening.

The Phlebotomy program at SUNY Orange is a seven credit program that can be completed over the course of 16 weeks. Students will complete 210 hours of training that will include topics such as drawing and handling blood, approved methods and safety, medical terminology, anatomy and laboratory procedures. The cost of this program is $1000.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the National Certification Examination.

York College

York College is located in Jamaica, Queens and offers a Phlebotomy program. This phlebotomy program will prepare individuals to collect, transport and analyze blood specimens and other specimens.

York College’s Phlebotomy program is a nine week program that holds classes one day a week for three hours. Topics discussed during the didactic portion of this program will include medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, the circulatory system, blood collection, venipuncture, arterial specimen, computers and specimens.

Not only will students participate in didactic training but they will also participate in supervised laboratory experiences. In the lab they will practice drawing blood on mannequin arms.

Upon successful completion of this program students will be prepared to sit for the National Healthcareer Association certification examination.
