Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

The Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety offers a Phlebotomy training program that is designed specifically for law enforcement.

The program was created in an effort to streamline the warrant program. The people enrolled in this program should be police personnel and will received specialized training to draw blood for investigative purposes including DUI/ SWI investigations, communicable disease testing, DNA testing and more.



Students enrolled in this program will have to complete some preliminary course work online. The class includes 8-hour-long days of instruction and 20-30 hours of clinical experience. Before this program is complete, students will have to perform over 100 venipunctures to prove their skills.

This program including courses, textbooks and instructors, is funded by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.



Brookline College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Diploma

Brookline College has several campuses in Arizona, including one in Phoenix. This college offers a comprehensive Phlebotomy Technician training program that results in a diploma for students that successfully complete the program.

This program will teach students about all aspects of Phlebotomy, including communicating in the lab and with patients, clerical duties, blood drawing skills and more. Students who pass this course and the national certification exam will be able to be employed in entry level Phlebotomy positions in medical facilities and labs.

Tuition for this program totals $16,000, but assistance is available for students who qualify.

GateWay Community College

GateWay Community College offers a 300-hour program of phlebotomy certificate.

  GateWay Community College is the first technical college in Arizona, and offers more than 150 degree, certificate, and other programs to students each year.



Phlebotomy Services

Programs Offered: 3-Day Phlebotomy Training Program

Location: Varies

Phlebotomy Services is a traveling Phlebotomy training service that offers a program that can prepare students for Phlebotomist certification in just 3 days. The location of this training varies, but they do make stops in Phoenix. Interested students should be sure to check the training schedule that is provided on the Phlebotomy Services website for up to date information about training sessions in Phoenix.

The first two days of training will be completed online. Students can complete this portion of the course at their own pace.

The third day of training is held at a learning facility where students can gain hands on practice and learn important phlebotomy skills like skin puncture, venipuncture, and how to complete difficult draws.



Phoenix College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

Phoenix College offers a very thorough Phlebotomy program that is designed to fully prepare students to take on the role of the Phlebotomist. Some of the skills that students will learn in this program include collecting fluid or tissue samples, drawing blood using different collection techniques, explaining procedures to patients, and conducting standard laboratory tests.

This course requires 4 credits of prerequisite classes and 4.5 credits of program classes. In addition to these 8.5 credits, 120 hours of clinical experience is required of every student in the course.

The courses students must take for this program include: Fundamentals in Health Care Delivery, Medical Terminology, Phlebotomy: Basic Skills, Specimen Processing and Advanced Techniques, and Clinical Practicum: Phlebotomy and Specimen Processing. The tuition for these classes totals $800.



Pima Medical Institute

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program

Pima Medical Institute offers a 10-credit program of phlebotomy technician.

The program includes courses of study skills, CPR & first aid, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, introduction to laboratory and communication, and phlebotomy. A 160-hour clinical externship is also required.



Providence Training Institute

Providence Training Institute offers a Phlebotomy Technician training program that includes both in class training and a clinical externship.

The classroom portion of the course includes 80 hours of instruction. During this time students will learn about how to function as part of the healthcare team, the basics of Phlebotomy, and how to effectively interact with patients.

The externship portion of the course covers 160 hours of training. Students will learn about venipuncture, specimen collection, record keeping, and vital signs. Externships may be completed at hospitals, independent laboratories, nursing homes, and urgent care centers.

Tuition for this program is $1650.00 and includes a textbook, a workbook, one scrub set and lab coat, CPR certification and a TB skin test.
