Additionally, students that would like to become a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant can use this phlebotomy program to count towards the mandated 280 hours needed for that course of study.

The curriculum of this training option includes: venipuncture techniques, first aid, CPR-American Heart, blood borne pathogen training in accordance with ASHI standards, and more. The Medical Institute of Kentucky offers a Phlebotomy Technician/EKG Technician program which can be completed in as little as 9 weeks. The college offers both daytime and evening schedules so students with different availabilities can find an option that suits their needs.

The curriculum covers a wide range of topics which include: labeling and storing blood containers for processing, how to relieve a patient’s fear of the procedure through conversation, assembling equipment, how to draw blood from patients or donors, how to take vital signs, and more.

In addition to the phlebotomy training, students will also learn how to perform and understand EKG’s which can improve their employability. Upon the successful completion of this training, students will become eligible to sit for certification by examination with the National Healthcare Association to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician and a CET Certified EKG Technician.
