At Auburn University, you can receive the training that you will need to pursue a career in the medical industry. This is a 90 hour course, and upon completion, you can arrange a free clinical rotation which can help improve your chances of becoming certified and obtaining employment.

In order to attend this program, you should have either a high school diploma or GED equivalent. The curriculum of this training program includes: proper specimen collection, processing and handling of specimens, laboratory law, ethics, and regulatory issues, anatomy and physiology, safety procedures, and more. In addition to the lessons, students will be able to participate optional externships to perfect their ability of retrieving and handling specimens.

These various approaches are designed to provide students with a thorough knowledge of phlebotomy techniques, safety precautions, and an overall understanding of the expectations that employers will have. You will learn skills such as: how to accurately log specimens into the clinical lab information system, and how to collect blood specimens via venipuncture.

In order to apply, you must have a documentation of CPR certification and an unconditional admission to the college, as well as the phlebotomy application packet. If you are accepted into the program, there is a mandatory orientation session that will take place before the first class.
