Programs Offered: Phlebotomist Program







Location: Beckley (390 Stanaford Road, Beckley, WV 25801)

The Academy of Careers and Technology is located and Beckley, West Virginia. This career and technology institute offers a Phlebotomist Program for those who wish to begin careers in the health care field as a phlebotomist. This program will qualify individuals to work in hospitals, doctor offices, laboratories, clinics, nursing homes and much more.
The training that takes place in this program will prepare individuals to draw blood from patients or donors for the purpose of diagnostic testing, laboratory analysis or other medical purposes. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm – 9pm for a total of sixteen weeks. During this training, students will complete a total of 100 clinical hours.
The cost of this program is $1355.



Blue Ridge Community and Technical College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Certification Program

Location: Martinsburg (400 West Stephen Street, Martinsburg, WV 25401)

Blue Ridge Community and Technical College is located in Martinsburg, West Virginia and offers a Phlebotomy Technician Certification Program.
This is a 90 hour program. Classes are held on Wednesdays from 8:30am – 11:15am or Wednesday from 11:30am – 2:15pm. Classroom work during this program includes terminology, anatomy and physiology, blood collection procedures, specimen hands-on practice and clinical training in the skills and techniques needed for performing puncture methods. Students will also participate in lab exercises, live blood draws, working with a training arm and more.
This program will prepare students to collect blood specimens for the purpose of medical diagnostics, laboratory analysis and other medical uses. Students will be qualified to work in hospitals, neighborhood health center, medical group practices, HMO’s, public health facilities and more.



Kanawha Valley Community & Technical College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program

Location: Charleston (1701 Fifth Ave., Charleston, WV 25312)

Kanawha Valley Community & Technical College is located in Charleston, West Virginia and offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program.
This program includes 90 hours of classroom instruction and lab exercises, and a 120 hour clinical rotation. Classroom instruction and lab work will include topics and practices such as terminology, anatomy and physiology, blood collection procedures, specimen hands-on practice, and the proper training techniques to perform different puncture methods. The clinical rotation is completed over a duration of three weeks. During the clinical, students will be able to put theory into practice under the supervision of hospital personnel.
Individuals must be prepared to pass a criminal background check, drug screen and have up to date immunizations before beginning the practicum.



Mountain State University

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

Location: Beckley (410 Neville Street, Beckley, WV 25801)

Mountain State University is located in Beckley, West Virginia and offers a Phlebotomy Program.
This program combines classroom instruction and lab exercises with a clinical practicum in a local health care facility. Students will be prepared to collect blood samples for the purpose of laboratory analysis, diagnostics and more. Course topics for this program include phlebotomy, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, clinical laboratory science and pharmacology. Students will then put theory into practice and practice venipuncture techniques on manikins.
Upon the successful completion of this program, individuals will be prepared to sit for the national Registered Phlebotomy Technician examination and credential. They will then be qualified to work in hospitals, home health settings, surgery centers, clinics, physician offices, insurance companies, blood banks, research facilities and more.



National College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

Location: Parkersburg (110 Park Shopping Center Drive, Parkersburg, WV 26101)

National College offers a Phlebotomy Program in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
This program will prepare students for entry level positions in the health care field as a phlebotomist. Students will be trained on the proper ways to collect blood specimens for the purpose of laboratory analysis, medical diagnostics, or other medical reasons. Students will also be trained in patient record keeping, medical terminology, communication, health care law and ethics, phlebotomy techniques, anatomy and physiology, Microsoft Office, handling blood specimens and sterilizing equipment and tools.
This program will combine classroom lecture, laboratory exercises and a clinical externship to gain theoretical and hands-on training.
The total cost of this program is $9208. This cost includes tuition, books, fees, uniforms and the graduation fee.



Triad Tech, Inc.

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program

Location: Huntington (30 West 6th Avenue, Huntington, WV 25701)

Triad Tech, Inc. is located in Huntington, West Virginia and offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program.
This program will prepare individuals for careers in the health care field as entry level phlebotomists. The program will combine training portions such as classroom instruction, laboratory exercises and a clinical in a local health care facility. Students will learn the proper techniques and ways to work with syringes, vacutainers, butterflies, monovette needles and multiflys.
During the clinical, students will be required to complete 100 successful sticks and five finger sticks. Once they have completed this portion of the training, they will be eligible to sit for the National ASPT Board Exam. They will then be qualified to work in hospitals, physician offices, laboratories and other health care settings.



West Virginia Office of Laboratory Services

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

Location: South Charleston (167 Eleventh Avenue, South Charleston, WV 25303)

West Virginia Office of Laboratory Services offers a Phlebotomy training program in South Charleston, West Virginia.
This phlebotomy program will provide training for individuals who wish to work as phlebotomists who collect blood specimens for the purpose of medical diagnostics, laboratory analysis or other medical purposes. Course topics for this program will include Regulations and Safety, such as Federal Regulations, Needle Safety & Prevention Act, NIOSH Recommendations, WV State regulations affecting phlebotomy and Chemical examination. Other course topics will include Sources of Error in Phlebotomy, Stocking the Phlebotomy Tray, Phlebotomy Procedure and Technique, Guidelines for Specimen Submission and Handling, Phlebotomy Quality Assessment and Bleeding Time Test.
This program can be completed in approximately six weeks and will include 10 contact hours.
