Location: Fairfax (Fairfax, VA)

Adult and Community Education (ACE) offers Phlebotomy Training Programs throughout the Fairfax area. Those who are interested in this program should check with ACE to find which school locations hold courses for the Phlebotomy program.
This Phlebotomy Training Program will prepare students to successfully perform venipunctures in a medical or laboratory facility. Topics covered in this program include terminology, collection procedures, and hands-on laboratory practice. Students will also complete a clinical rotation and will be prepared to take the national certification examination upon the successful completion of this course.
The total cost of this program is $1,749. The program is offered several times throughout the year. Classes are held on either Tuesday and Thursday or Monday and Wednesday at 7pm.



America School of Nursing & Allied Health

Danville Community College offers a Phlebotomy Program in Danville, Virginia.
The phlebotomy program at DCC will prepare students to collect and transport blood specimens for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Courses for this program include a one credit Introduction to Medical Terminology course, a three credit Basic Human Biology course, a four credit Phlebotomy course and a four credit clinical phlebotomy course. Each course will also include 3 – 6 lab hours so that students will receive both classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory experience. Students will complete a total of 12 credit hours during this program and will receive a certificate of completion once the program is successfully completed.
This program will enable students to gain employment in hospitals, doctor offices, laboratory or other related medical fields.



Fast Track Health Care Education

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program

Fast Track Health Care Education is located in Roanoke, Virginia and offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program.
The Phlebotomy Technician Program includes 200 hours of training and prepares individuals to draw, collect and transport blood specimens for laboratory analysis. Classroom instruction time makes up 80 hours of training and the clinical instruction time makes up 120 hours of training. The program is offered as either a daytime or evening program. The daytime program can be completed in five weeks and offers classes Monday – Friday from 9:30am – 4pm. The evening program is nine weeks long.
Individuals who wish to enroll in this program must be at least 18, be a US citizen, have a valid ID and Social Security Card, have a high school diploma or GED, pass a criminal background check and drug test, and be CPR certified.



Gee's Career Training Institute

The phlebotomy program includes 120 hours of training of both classroom instruction and hands on laboratory practical. The training institute offers a flexible schedule for the convenience of the student. Students may choose to take morning classes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9am – 1pm for ten weeks, evening classes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 4pm – 8pm for ten weeks, or weekend classes on Saturday and Sunday from 9am – 2pm for 12 weeks.



J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College

Programs Offered: Coordinated Practice Phlebotomy Training

J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College is located in Richmond, Virginia, and offers a Coordinated Practice Phlebotomy Training program.
This phlebotomy program includes five credit hours and is made up of lecture hours, lab hours and contact hours. During this program students will have the opportunity to observe live venipunctures and will then perform venipunctures under supervision. Once students complete a number of venipunctures under supervision, they will then perform at least 100 venipunctures and 25 dermal punctures.
Students will be required to complete 20 lab hours per week, making up a total of 100 lab hours. Students will be equipped to use different types of venipuncture equipment.
Students who successfully complete this program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination.



Medical Educators

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

Medical Educators, located in Midlothian, Virginia, is an education center that focuses on providing quality and affordable medical education. Among their programs they offer a Phlebotomy Program.
Students may choose to take this phlebotomy program during the day or the evening. Each program can be completed in six weeks. Evening classes are held on Monday and Wednesday from 6pm – 10pm. Day classes are held on Monday and Wednesday from 9am – 1pm. Limited seating is available for students, so students should enroll and register in the program early on.

This phlebotomy program can be completed in two semesters and is a total of 25 credit hours. National College offers a Phlebotomy Program in Danville and Harrisonburg, Virginia.
This phlebotomy program will prepare students to perform basic phlebotomy procedures, assemble equipment and disposable containers for needles, conduct patient interviews, take vital signs, maintain a sterile environment and adhere to the safety standards and practices that are a part of the phlebotomy field.
Students who participate in this phlebotomy program will gain a combination of training that includes lectures, labs and a clinical externship placement.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination. They will then be prepared to work as an entry level phlebotomist in the health care field in environments such as blood banks, doctor offices, hospitals and more.



Norfolk State University

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program

Norfolk State University offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program.
The Phlebotomy Technician Program offers courses several months throughout the year, including January, April and September. Each course is nine weeks long and includes 45 hours of training. The course will also include a one week, 40 hour externship. The cost of the program is $950 and includes the cost of tuition, books and materials. Classes are offered at 7pm – 9:45pm or from 9am – 2pm.
This program will prepare students to work as part of a medical laboratory team as a phlebotomist. They will be qualified to work in laboratories, hospitals, clinics and physician offices. Students will receive training in Quality Assurance, Legal Issues, Universal Precautions, Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, Blood Collection Equipment and Procedures, Specimen Handling and Processing, and much more.



Northern Virginia Community College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

Northern Virginia Community College is located in Springfield and offers a Phlebotomy Program.
Students who wish to enroll in this program must comply with all general admission requirements, attend a phlebotomy information session, have a NOVA application on file, have a high school diploma or GED, complete or qualify for ENG 111 and have a minimum GPA of 2.0.
The Phlebotomy program includes 11 credit hours that can be completed in one semester. Courses for the program include College Composition I, Intro to Medical Terminology, Phlebotomy and a Clinical.

Northern Virginia Phlebotomy, LLC, located in Stone Ridge, Virginia, offers two phlebotomy programs. The first is a Phlebotomy Program and the second is a Phlebotomy Technician II & Certified Training Program.
The Phlebotomy program can be completed in 3-4 months and includes 90 hours of didactic training and 125 hours of practical training in a local clinical setting. The Phlebotomy Technician II & Certified Training Program is for those who have already practiced phlebotomy. The course is a two-session, three-hour classroom instruction session that focuses primarily on clinical techniques, special collection procedures and board certification examination review and an off-site clinical internship.



Salvation Academy

Stratford University

Programs Offered: Associate of Applied Science in EKG-Phlebotomy Technician Program

Location: Falls Church (7777 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA 22043)

Stratford University offers an Associate of Applied Science Degree in EKG-Phlebotomy Technician Program.
This program will combine EKG training with Phlebotomy training. For the EKG portion, students will be prepared to operate EKG machines and interpret EKG readings for signs of advanced heart diseases, advanced arrhythmias, hypertosis and myocardial infarction.
The phlebotomy program will prepare students to properly draw blood as well as perform medical asepsis techniques, finger sticks, venipuncture and heel sticks. Students will also be trained in patient identification and the collection of urine samples.
This program can generally be complete in 60 weeks over a course of 6 quarters.
Students who successfully complete this EKG-Phlebotomy Technician program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination.



Tidewater Community College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Certification Program

Tidewater Community College is located in Norfolk, Virginia and offers a Phlebotomy Certification Program.
This is a twelve credit hour program that can be completed in one semester. Courses for this program include College Composition I, Introduction to Medical Terminology, Phlebotomy and Clinical Phlebotomy. The core phlebotomy course is completed in the first eight weeks of the program. The clinical portion of the program is completed in the second eight weeks of the program. The clinical will give students an opportunity to gain hands-on practice and training in what they have learned in the classroom and laboratory portions.
Students who successfully complete this program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination and will be prepared for entry-level employment in hospitals, medical offices, clinics and laboratories.



Virginia Highlands Community College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program

Virginia Highlands Community College is located in Abingdon, Virginia and offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program.
Classes for the Phlebotomy Program are held on Wednesday and Thursdays from 5:30pm – 9pm. Students will complete 48 hours of training in the classroom and laboratory for theoretical training. Students will then complete a 100 hour externship where they will put theory into practice and gain hands-on training.
The program is specifically designed for those who have no previous training in phlebotomy and wish to become employed as a phlebotomist.
Individuals who wish to enroll in this program must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. Upon successful completion of this program, students will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination. They will also be awarded a certificate of completion from the college.
