Academy of Allied Health Careers

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program







Location: Chattanooga (5600 Brainerd Rd., Suite C-3, Chattanooga, TN 37411)

The Academy of Allied Health Careers is located in Chattanooga, Tennessee and offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program.
This program includes 60 clock hours of both classroom instruction and lab exercises that can be completed over a 5 week period. Classes are held on Monday through Thursday from 9am – 12 pm. Students may also choose to take part in an externship/clinical if they wish. During the clinical students will perform 100 successful venipunctures over an additional 2-5 week period.
During training students will cover topics such as patient identification, safety and infection control, anatomy and physiology, order of blood draw, legal issues, obtaining vital signs and much more.
The total cost of this program is $1,275 which includes tuition, registration deposit, books, materials and a lab fee.



Allied Health Careers Institute

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

The Allied Health Careers Institute is located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and offers a Phlebotomy Program.
This phlebotomy program will prepare individuals to work in clinical laboratories, hospitals, physician’s offices, ambulatory healthcare services and other similar settings.
Training will prepare students to draw blood specimens by venipuncture as well as how to properly transport and handle them. They will be prepared to test and analyze these blood specimens for the treatments and diagnosis of diseases and illnesses. Students will also become familiar in topics such as anatomy and physiology, selecting equipment, additives that are used in blood collection, infection control, safety precautions, professional communication skills and much more.
Classes for this program are offered several times throughout the year.



American Red Cross

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy/EKG Program

The American Red Cross in Knoxville, Tennessee offers a Phlebotomy Technician Certification training program.
This program costs a total of $1,495 which includes textbooks, all written materials, all class supplies and the National Certified testing fees. Students must also be prepared to pay for professional liability insurance.
Training for this program not only includes training specifically for phlebotomy but also for CPR/FA/AED and American Red Cross Bloodborne Pathogens as well.
Students will complete a total of 82 hours of training. This training can be broken up into two phases including 72 hours of classroom training and 10 hours of a clinical experience.
Students who successfully complete this program will receive a certificate and will be eligible to sit for the National Certification examination.



Austin Peay State University

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Training Program

Austin Peay State University is located in Clarksville, Tennessee and offers a Phlebotomy Technician Training Program.
This phlebotomy program is designed specifically for individuals who have no medical experience and wish to work as a Phlebotomy Technician. They will be qualified for entry-level positions in a clinical laboratory or public health department setting. They will also be eligible to sit for the national certification examination upon getting their certificate of completion.
Training will be broken up into two phases, including 48 hours of classroom instruction and a 40 hour externship. Students will complete a total of 88 hours of training. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
The total cost of this program is $3,375 which includes books, course supplies, the externship and a course certificate of completion.



East Tennessee State University

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Certification Training Course

Location: Johnson City (PO Box 70267, Johnson City, TN 37614)

East Tennessee State University offers a Phlebotomy Certification Training Course. The university is located in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Classes for the phlebotomy program at ETSU are held two times a week for sixteen sessions. Classes are on Monday and Wednesday from 5pm – 8pm. The course can be completed in two months.
Students will also participate in an off-site, local clinical. The clinical will include 120 clock hours and will be completed over a three week period.
Individuals should take note that there is a waiting list for this program. Those who are considering joining this program should quickly enroll and put their name on the waiting list for the next available opening. Only 15 students are accepted to the program at a time. The registration fee for this course is $800.



EduMed Partners

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program

Location: Goodlettsville (907 Rivergate Pky, Goodlettsville, TN 37072)

EduMed Partners offers Phlebotomy training in Goodlettsville, Tennessee.
This is a 3.5 month, 14 week program. The total cost of this program is $2,700 which includes the application fee, tuition and other additional fees.
This program will enable students to enter the health care field as an entry level Phlebotomy Technician. Training will prepare students to complete tasks such as collecting blood and bodily fluids, keeping records and verifying patient information. They will also be prepared to give instructions to patients, pick up specimens and collect drug screens as well as operate centrifuge and practice safety precautions.
Upon successful completion of this program students will earn a CPR and Bloodborne Pathogen Certificate. The will also receive a phlebotomy certificate of completion and be eligible to sit for the national certification examination.



Jackson State Community College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technical Certificate

Location: Jackson (2046 North Parkway, Jackson, TN 38301)

Jackson State Community College is located in Jackson, Tennessee and it offers a program that will lead to a Phlebotomy Technical Certificate.
This Phlebotomy Technical Certificate program includes nine credit hours. Students who enroll in this program will complete two courses. These two courses include a three credit hour Phlebotomy course. This Phlebotomy course will include classroom instruction and theory as well as hands-on lab exercises. The second course includes a six credit hour Phlebotomy Practicum. During the Phlebotomy Practicum students will receive additional hands-on training in a local health care setting under supervision.
Students who successfully complete this program will be prepared to work at the entry-level of phlebotomy. They will also be prepared and eligible to take the national certification examination for phlebotomists.



Miller-Motte College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program

Miller-Motte College conveniently has a location in Chattanooga, Tennessee that offers a Phlebotomy Career Training Program.
This program will give students the necessary skills and knowledge needed to collect, handle, transport and analyze blood specimens. These skills will qualify individuals to work in a physician’s office, clinic, laboratory, hospital, specialty practices, health insurance offices and nursing homes. Individuals will also be qualified to take the national certifying exam upon successful completion of the program.
Miller-Motte offers an accelerated program that can be completed in six months. They offer small classes so that students will receive plenty of one-on-one attention and hands-on training. Tuition varies from location to location, so individuals should check with their local Miller-Motte Technical College for specific information.



Prepare To Care Training Center, LLC

Programs Offered: Certified Phlebotomy Technician Program

Prepare To Care Training Center, LLC offers a Certified Phlebotomy Technician Program in Cleveland, Tennessee.
This program will prepare students to handle the responsibilities of a phlebotomist such as explaining procedures to patients, drawing blood specimens, processing specimens for testing, updating patient records, cleaning and sterilizing equipment and much more.
The phlebotomy program includes a total of 80 clock hours of training. Students will complete 60 hours of classroom training as well as 20 hours of clinical practicum time.
The total cost for this phlebotomy program is $850. This price includes textbooks, all necessary equipment, tuition and CPR certification.
Upon successful completion of this program students will be eligible to take the National HealthCareer Association certification exam in Phlebotomy.



Roane State Community College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

Roane State Community College is located in Harriman, Tennessee and offers a Phlebotomy Program.
This is a three month course that is offered several times throughout the year. Classes for this program are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students may choose to take day classes from 1pm – 4pm or evening classes from 6pm – 9pm.
This phlebotomy training program will prepare students to work as entry level phlebotomists in settings such as hospitals, clinics, medical group practices, laboratories, public health facilities and more. Students will complete a total of 48 hours of training that will include classroom instruction and lecture and laboratory experiences and hands-on exercises.
Those who enroll in this program should be prepared to purchase/bring proof of liability insurance, textbooks, and CPR certification.



Southwest Tennessee Community College

Programs Offered: Laboratory Phlebotomy Technician Technical Certificate

Location: Memphis (5983 Macon Cove, Memphis, TN 38134)

Southwest Tennessee Community College is located in Memphis, Tennessee and offers a Laboratory Phlebotomy Technician Technical program that can lead to certification in phlebotomy.
This is a two semester, 20 credit hour program. During the first semester students will complete 6 credit hours in an Orientation to Medical Laboratory and Phlebotomy course. The second semester will include a Phlebotomy Seminar and a Phlebotomy Clinical that will make up the additional 14 credit hours. These two semesters include classroom lecture as well as lab exercises. The clinical portion of the program will take place at a local clinical facility where students will gain hands-on practices in skin puncture, venipuncture, patient care and specimen handling and distribution.
In addition to paying tuition, students should be prepared to pay additional costs of $400-$800 for uniforms, physicals, lab fees, immunizations, graduation, certification and licensure fees.



Tennessee Drug & Alcohol

Tennessee Drug & Alcohol offers their services for those who need drug and alcohol testing for pre-employment, reasonable suspicion and cause, post accidents, post injuries, returning to duty, follow up and other reasons. Because this is an important and necessary service, they offer a phlebotomy program for those who need training in the skills of phlebotomy to complete drug and alcohol testing through skin puncture, finger pricking and more.

Tennessee Technology Center

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

The Tennessee Technology Center has several centers throughout the state of Tennessee that offer Phlebotomy training. Individuals can enroll in the Technology Center to become a certified phlebotomist in Nashville, Pulaski, Knoxville, Murfreesboro, Hartsville and Huntsville.
Courses for the phlebotomy program begin several times throughout the year. Students can complete the course in 2-3 months. Classes are generally offered in the evening from 5:30 – 8:30 on Tuesdays or on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Students will complete 40 hours of training that includes clinical skills and theory practice such as universal precautions, specimen requirements, laboratory policies, venipuncture and capillary punctures.
Upon successful completion of this program, students are eligible to sit for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician examination. They will also be prepared to work as a Phlebotomist in the state of Tennessee without certification.



The University of Tennessee

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program

Location: Knoxville (1331 Circle Park Drive, Knoxville, TN 37916); Martin (554 University Street, Martin, TN 38237)

The University of Tennessee offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program in the cities of Knoxville and Martin, Tennessee.
This phlebotomy program will prepare students to draw, handle and test blood specimens for the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and diseases. Training will qualify students to work in the health care system in settings such as hospitals, neighborhood health care centers, medical group practices, HMO’s, public health facilities, veteran hospitals, insurance carriers and other health care settings.
Students will complete courses such as anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, ethics, specimen documentation, special collection procedures, laboratory operations, universal precautions and much more.
This is a 90 hour phlebotomy program that is made up of classroom instruction and laboratory exercises. Laboratory exercises will include live blood draws and working with a training arm.



Vanderbilt University Medical Center

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Education Program

Location: Nashville (1211 Medical Center Drive, Nashville, TN 37232)

Vanderbilt University Medical Center is located in Nashville, Tennessee and offers two different Phlebotomy Education Programs.
The first program is for those who have little to no experience in phlebotomy. It is an introduction course to the techniques and skills of venipuncture. The second program is for those who have phlebotomy experience and are interested in taking a refresher course.
The course is offered each month and classes are held from 9am – 12pm.
During training students will gain the skills and techniques needed for the proper and safe ways of drawing blood, correctly labeling specimens, correctly packaging specimens for lab delivery and lab communication.
The VUMC phlebotomy program does not offer live training and students will practice on artificial devices.



Walters State Community College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program

Location: Morristown (500 South Davy Crockett Parkway, Morristown, TN 37813)

Walters State Community College is located in Morristown, Tennessee and the college offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program.
This phlebotomy program includes classroom instruction, lab exercise and a 100 hour externship. The program is offered in both the fall and spring semesters and can be completed in one to two months. Classes are generally held on Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm – 9:30pm or from 5:30pm – 9pm.
Training for this program will prepare individuals to collect blood specimens by venipuncture as well as how to properly handle, transport and test those blood specimens or other bodily fluids. Testing these specimens will be done so that the proper diagnosis and treatment can be offered to patients who are suffering from certain illnesses or diseases.



West Tennessee Business College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Certificate Program

Location: Jackson (1186 Hwy 45 Bypass, Jackson, TN 38301)

West Tennessee Business College is located in Jackson, Tennessee and offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program that will lead to certification.
This program will prepare students to collect blood and other bodily specimens in settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, physician offices, home health care agencies, ambulatory care centers, off-site labs and blood banks. Individuals may even gain employment in special settings such as veterinary offices, health maintenance organizations, research facilities and the American Red Cross.
Students will be trained in phlebotomy skills and techniques such as venipuncture and capillary puncture. Students will also be trained in proper labeling of tubes and equipment as well as the proper ways to handle blood specimens.
CPR training will also be completed during the phlebotomy program.
