Aiken Technical College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program







Location: Graniteville (2276 J. Davis Highway, Graniteville, SC 29829)

Aiken Technical College offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program. This program is under the Patient Care Technician Program.
Students who successfully complete this program will receive a certificate of completion and will be eligible to take the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians exam.
This is a 146 hour program that is made up of classroom instruction, laboratory exercises and a clinical experience. Classroom instruction and laboratory exercises will make up 66 hours of training. Courses for this program include blood drawing, skin puncture, specimen collection, clerical skills, interpersonal skills, customer service, computer systems, and professional considerations related to the medical laboratory.
The clinical training will take place at the end of the program at an off campus site. This training will make up the last 80 hours of training.



Forrest Junior College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Diploma Program

Location: Anderson (601 East River Street, Anderson, SC 29624)

Forest Junior College, located in Anderson, South Carolina, offers a Phlebotomy Diploma Program.
This is a 39 credit hour program where students will complete both theory and clinical practices. Courses for this program include Computer Information Systems, English Composition, Medical Terminology, Phlebotomy I and II, First Aid, Anatomy and Physiology and Ethics.
Training for this program will prepare students to draw blood specimens as well as handle and test them for the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and diseases.
Students who successfully complete this program will qualify for entry-level positions in hospitals, physician offices, group practices, laboratories, health maintenance organizations and public facilities.
They will also be eligible to sit for the national examination from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists for certification.



Greenville Technical College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

Location: Greenville (620 South Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville, SC 29607)

Greenville Technical College offers a 192 hour Phlebotomy Program. This program can be broken up into 72 hours of didactic and laboratory components and 120 hours of clinical training.
The didactic and laboratory phases of this course will prepare students to collect, handle and test blood specimens. It will gave them the necessary skills needed for working under pressure, communicating effectively to colleagues and patients, and working in a health care or laboratory setting. The clinical phase will be completed in three weeks in a local health care setting.
Classes are held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30pm – 8:30 pm. The course can be completed in three months. The total cost of this program is $809.
Upon successful completion of this program students will be eligible to take the ASCP national board exam to gain certification as a phlebotomist.



Horry Georgetown Technical College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Certificate Program

Location: Conway (2050 Highway 501 East, Conway, SC 29528)

Horry Georgetown Technical College offers a Phlebotomy Certificate Program.
This program consists of 17 credit hours and is completed over a two semester period. The first semester will include courses in Medical Terminology, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Phlebotomy for the Health Care Provider and Basic Anatomy and Physiology. The second semester will include a six credit hour Phlebotomy Skills course. Students will complete didactic, laboratory and clinical training. This training will consist of basic venipuncture, safety procedures, working effectively with clients and accurately collecting blood specimens for analysis.
The phlebotomy program will qualify individuals for entry-level positions in hospitals, clinics, laboratories and other health care settings. It will also prepare them to take the national examination to become a certified phlebotomist.



Midlands Technical College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

Location: Columbia (316 South Beltline Boulevard, Columbia, SC 29205)

Midlands Technical College, located in Columbia, South Carolina, offers a Phlebotomy Program.
The school offers the Phlebotomy program several times throughout the year. Classes are offered during the morning from 9am – 12pm or during the evening from 6pm – 9pm. Classes will be held two days during the week on either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday. The cost of this program is $569.
Those who complete phlebotomy training will be prepared to follow universal precautions, tie tourniquets, identify veins, and properly draw, handle and analyze blood specimens.
Students who successfully complete this program will be qualified to work as a phlebotomist, but will not be certified. For certification students must take the ASCP national examination, which they will be eligible to do after the successful completion of this course.



Northeastern Technical College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program

Location: Cheraw (1201 Chesterfield Highway, Cheraw, SC 29520)

Northeastern Technical College, located in Cheraw, South Carolina, offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program.
This phlebotomy program combines classroom instruction and clinical training over a one year, two semester period. Classes are held during the evening from 6pm – 10pm one night a week for twelve weeks.
The classroom instruction phase includes 48 hours of training. This portion of training will cover medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, infection control, safety and first aid, use of equipment, patient communication and more.
The clinical component of training is made up of 100 hours of training and begins once the classroom phase has been completed.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be eligible to take the national certification examination to become a certified phlebotomist.



Piedmont Technical College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Certificate Program

Location: Greenwood (620 N. Emerald Rd., Greenwood, SC 29648)

Piedmont Technical College, located in Greenwood, South Carolina, offers a Phlebotomy Technician Certificate Program.
This phlebotomy program is offered in both the fall and spring semesters and classes are held during the day. The program will accept up to 15 students per each semester. This program will prepare students to collect, handle and analyze blood specimens for the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and diseases.
Students who wish to enroll in this program must complete courses in Medical Terminology, English Composition I, Elementary Algebra and Introduction to Computers. Students will then complete courses in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Phlebotomy Skills, and a Phlebotomy Experience. The Phlebotomy Experience course is made up of 21 lab hours.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be eligible to sit for the national examination for certification.



Professional Medical Training Center

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program

Location: Florence (2204 2nd Loop Rd Ste F, Florence, SC 29501); Conway (168 Waccamaw Medical Park, Conway, SC 29526)

The Professional Medical Training Center offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program. The training center has locations in Florence and Conway, South Carolina.
The Florence campus offers courses on Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30pm – 9pm or 9am – 12:30pm. The Conway campus offers courses on Monday and Wednesday from 5:30pm – 9pm or 9am – 12:30pm. The program can be completed in as little as three months, or 11 weeks, at both campuses.
The phlebotomy program combines lecture and clinical laboratory components. During training students will complete 78 classroom and lab hours and perform 30 venipunctures and 10 capillary sticks.
To enroll in this program, individuals must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.
Upon successful completion of this program students will be prepared to take the National Health Career Association certification exam to become a certified phlebotomist.



Spartanburg Community College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Certificate Program

Location: Spartanburg (800 Brisack Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303)

Spartanburg Community College offers a Phlebotomy Certificate Program. This program can be completed in one semester and is offered in both the spring and fall semesters.
Students who enroll in this training program will learn the proper techniques and skills for collecting, handling and testing blood specimens for the treatment and diagnosis of illnesses. Courses for this program include Introduction to Health Professions, Medical Terminology, Basic First Aid, Phlebotomy Practicum and Phlebotomy Experience.
The program will consist of classroom instruction, laboratory exercises and a clinical rotation for a total of 18 credit hours. The clinical rotation will be completed off-site at local health care settings.
Students who successfully complete this program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination to become a certified phlebotomist.



Technical College of the Lowcountry

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

The Technical College of the Lowcountry offers a Phlebotomy Program. This technical college conveniently has several locations throughout South Carolina including Beaufort, Bluffton, Varnville and Walterboro.
Training will prepare students to identify appropriate tubes and labels, prep clinical sites, properly perform venipunctures and finger sticks, and administer bedside glucose. They will also be prepared to follow universal precautions, tie tourniquets, identify veins, and use the necessary medical equipment in the clinical site.
The tuition for this program is $725. Additional fees for books, a SLED check, gloves and immunizations will cost extra.
This phlebotomy program will enable students to work as an entry level phlebotomist. Those who wish to become a certified phlebotomist will be prepared to take the national examination.



Trident Technical College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomist Program

Location: North Charleston (7000 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406)

Trident Technical College, located in North Charleston, South Carolina, offers a Phlebotomist Program.
This phlebotomy program is made up of two courses including Introduction to Phlebotomy and Advanced Phlebotomy Procedures. The Introduction to Phlebotomy course will combine theoretical and practical skills and knowledge to become a phlebotomist. This course will prepare individuals to establish professional relationships with patients, prepare the venipuncture site and necessary equipment, and collect specimens.
The Advanced Phlebotomy Procedures course will build on the Introduction course and focuses on advanced procedures of phlebotomy. During this course students will perform live sticks and gain hands-on experience.
Each course is $300 and does not include the price of books and other additional fees.
Students who successfully complete this program will receive a certificate of achievement.



Allheart Allied Health Education Center

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

Location: Columbia (2139 Bull St, Columbia, SC 29202); Sumter (188 S. Pike East, Sumter, SC 29150)

Allheart Allied Health Education Center focuses on training for individuals who wish to enter the Allied Health Services field. The center offers a phlebotomy training program that can lead to certification and to entry-level jobs in hospitals, physician offices, laboratories and more. Allheart has one location in Columbia and one location in Sumter.
At Allheart, individuals can complete phlebotomy training courses in as little as four weeks. In Sumter, phlebotomy classes are held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8am – 2pm. In Columbia, phlebotomy classes are offered on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8am – 2pm. Each campus has classes that are offered at different times during the year.
This training program is a state approved program and upon the successful completion of the course, students will be eligible to take the national certification examination.



TriCounty Technical College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Certificate Program

Location: Pendleton (7900 Highway 76, Pendleton, SC 29670) Campuses are also located in Anderson and Easley, South Carolina.

TriCounty Technical College offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program that leads to certification. The college has campuses in Pendleton, Anderson and Easley.
This program offers courses that cover medical terminology, the roles and responsibilities of a Phlebotomy Technician, the circulatory system, anatomy, infection control, quality assurance, and documentation. Training will enable students to collect blood specimens as well as transport and handle them and do limited diagnostic tests on them. Students will complete didactic, laboratory and clinical components while in this program.
Several pre-requisites should be noted for those who wish to enroll in this program. Individuals must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, complete a background check, be CPR certified and must be able to meet the performance and physical requirements of the job.



York Technical College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Practicum Program

Location: Rock Hill (452 South Anderson Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730)

York Technical College, located in Rock Hill, South Carolina, offers a Phlebotomy Practicum Program.
This program can be broken up into 40 hours of theory and 120 hours of a clinical experience in a local health care setting. Students who enroll in this program will gain five credit hours and will gain the necessary skills and knowledge needed for phlebotomists who work in hospital settings, clinical facilities and physicians’ offices.
Individuals who wish to enroll in this program must have a high school diploma or GED, complete a physical exam, show proof of vaccinations and immunizations, provide evidence of health insurance, complete a background check and be CPR certified.
Upon the successful completion of this program, students will be eligible to sit for the ASCP Board of Certification exam to become a certified phlebotomist in the state of South Carolina.



Florence-Darlington Technical College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program

Florence-Darlington Technical College offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program in Florence, South Carolina.
This program will prepare students to work as phlebotomists who draw blood by practicing venipuncture or skin punctures. They will also be prepared to transport and test these blood specimens for transfusions, donations and research.
Courses for this program include Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, Communications, College Skills and more. Students will also complete a Phlebotomy Practicum in a local health care setting. Students will complete a total of 20 credit hours over a two semester, one school-year period.
Upon successful completion of this program, individuals will be qualified to work in hospitals, commercial laboratories, private physicians’ offices, public health departments, clinics, blood banks and more.



Central Carolina Technical College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Certificate Program

Central Carolina Technical College offers a Phlebotomy Certificate Program in Sumter, South Carolina.
This is a 30 credit hour phlebotomy training program that will lead to certification. This program is designed for individuals who wish to begin careers in the Allied Health Services field and want to work in a hospital, clinic or other health care setting.
This program is made up of didactic, laboratory and clinical components. Courses include Medical Terminology, Phlebotomy Skills, Phlebotomy Practicum, Keyboarding, Anatomy and Physiology, Introduction to Computers, English Composition, Professional Communications and General Psychology.
The cost of this program is $4,740 - $7,950 depending on what county and state the student is from.
Upon successful completion of this program students will be qualified to take the Certification of Phlebotomy Technician exam or the Registered Phlebotomy Technician exam for certification.
