Butler County Community College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program







Location: Butler (PO Box 1203, Butler, PA 16003)

Butler County Community College offers a Phlebotomy program that leads to a certificate of completion upon successful completion of the course.
This program will prepare individuals for employment in Pennsylvania as a phlebotomist who performs capillary puncture and venipuncture. The program consists of 48 hours of classroom instruction that includes topics such as anatomy, blood components, specimen collection and venipuncture technique. Students will also participate in a 100 clinical hours that must be completed over a three month period.
Individuals who are interested in applying to this program must be prepared to take a physical exam, show immunization records, complete a drug screen and criminal record check and show a valid driver’s license. Students must also show proof of insurance or sign a medical waiver.



Community College of Allegheny County

Programs Offered: Phlebotomist Training Program

Location: Allegheny (800 Allegheny Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15233)

The Community College of Allegheny County offers a Phlebotomist Training Program. This program will lead to a certificate of completion and prepare students to work as entry-level phlebotomists upon successful completion. As an entry level phlebotomist, individuals will be prepared to collect and handle blood specimens for testing in hospitals, physician’s offices and other healthcare settings.
Students who successfully complete this program will also be eligible to take the national examination.
This program is made up of 12 credit hours of classroom instruction, lab experiences and a practicum. Students can complete this program in one semester. Courses include Basic Life Support, Clinical Phlebotomy and Clinical Phlebotomy Seminar.
This phlebotomy program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.



Community College of Beaver County

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

Location: Monaca (1 Campus Drive, Monaca, PA 15061); Beaver Falls (125 Cessna Drive, Beaver Falls, PA 15010)

The Community College of Beaver County offers a program in Phlebotomy that leads to a certificate of completion.
This is a six credit hour program that can be completed in one semester. The program includes an Introduction to Medical Laboratory course that includes 45 hours of lecture and 45 hours of lab exercises. Students will study topics such as laboratory safety, infection control, ethics, basic instrumentation and the collection, transportation and processing of specimens. The program also includes a two credit, 100 hour clinical. During this phase of training, students will learn venipuncture, capillary puncture and specimen processing.
Upon successful completion of this program students will be eligible to take the National ASCP registry exam and work as an entry-level phlebotomist.



Fortis Institute

Programs Offered: ECG/Phlebotomy/Lab Assistant Program

The Fortis Institute conveniently has two locations in Pennsylvania that offer a Phlebotomy training program. The locations include Forty Fort and Scranton.
The phlebotomy program at Fortis is a combination program that also includes training in ECG and Lab Assistant skills. This combination training program will prepare individuals to work in a hospital, physician’s office or medical laboratory. Individuals will be prepared to work alongside physicians by operating ECG machines, drawing blood and other specimens and completing lab work to test specimens for diagnosis and treatment.
This program will provide students with the proper training they need for entry-level work as a phlebotomist. Training will include classroom lectures as well as lab experiences and exercises.



Harrisburg Area Community College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Diploma Technician Program

Location: Harrisburg (1 HACC Drive, Harrisburg, PA 17110); also available at Gettysburg, Lancaster, Lebanon and York Campuses

Harrisburg Area Community College offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program. Students who successfully complete this program will be eligible to sit for the American Society of Clinical Pathologists Phlebotomist Certification examination and will be awarded a diploma.
The phlebotomy program is an 18 credit hour program that can be completed in two semesters. Students must complete general education courses in Anatomy & Physiology, Software for Business, Communication and Allied Health. Major courses include a four credit phlebotomy program and a 2 credit phlebotomy clinical.
The total cost for this program is $4,000 - $5,000. This cost includes tuition, application fee and textbooks. Additional costs such as CPR certification, drug screening, uniforms, background checks, physical exams and certification examination are not included in the total cost but may be eligible for reimbursement.



Lackawanna College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Lab Technician Program

Location: Scranton (501 Vine Street, Scranton, PA 18509)

Lackawana College, located in Scranton, Pennsylvania, offers a Phlebotomy Lab Technician Program.
This program can be completed over a course of 17 weeks and includes 200 hours of training. Classes are held on Monday and Wednesday from 8am – 2:30pm. Students will also participate in lab exercises and a clinical rotation. Clinical rotations are offered Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am and 4pm.
Training will prepare individuals to draw blood, communicate to patients, update patient records, clean and sterilize equipment, take patient’s blood pressure, pulse and respiration rate and much more. Once training is successfully completed, students will be eligible to take the National Phlebotomy Certification exam if they wish to.
The total cost of this program is $3,500, which includes tuition, books and materials.



McCann School of Business & Technology

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program

Montgomery County Community College offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program in Blue Bell and Pottstown, Pennsylvania.
This phlebotomy program can be completed in just one semester. It will train and prepare students to safely draw and handle blood specimens, test and analyze blood specimens, and effectively communicate with patients and staff. The program will also prepare students to take the national certification examination.
This 15 week program is broken up into two phases consisting of classroom instruction, lab experiences and a clinical experience. During the first ten weeks students will participate in classroom and laboratory instruction on Fridays from 9am – 4pm. During the last five weeks students will complete 100 hours of an off-campus clinical experience. The clinical will take place Monday through Friday for a total of 20 hours per week.



National Career School

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Training Program

Location: Uniontown (2 W Main Street #307, Uniontown, PA 15401)

The National Career School, located in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, offers a Phlebotomy Training Program.
This program includes 180 hours of training that can be broken up into didactic training, laboratory experiences and a clinical externship. Didactic and laboratory training make up 60 hours of this program. During this phase students will be taught standard phlebotomy procedures such as venipuncture, skin puncture and other specimen collection techniques.
Courses for this program include Historical Perspectives in Phlebotomy, Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology, Specimen Collection Procedures, Ethics, Quality Control, Computer Skills and more. A CPR courses is also included in this program.
During the clinical externship, students will participate in 120 hours of observing, training and practicing in a local healthcare facility to develop the skill learned during the didactic phase.



Phlebotomy Institute of Central PA

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

The Phlebotomy Institute of Central PA is located in Lemont, Pennsylvania and offers a Phlebotomy Program.
This phlebotomy program includes 96 hours of classroom and hands-on training. The first 36 hours of training will include classroom instruction that is led by qualified medical professionals. They will instruct students in the safety standards, regulations and phlebotomy techniques that are necessary for a successful career. Classes are held two nights a week for six weeks and will include 20-30 students and 5-6 instructors.
The second phase of the program will include 60 hours of hands-on training in a local laboratory or physician’s office. Students will be trained in how to collect blood by using venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures as well as how to safely handle, transport and analyze the blood specimens.
This program will prepare students to take the national certification exam.



Phlebotomy Training Center

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Training Program

Location: Pittsburgh (PO Box 8184, Pittsburgh, PA 15217)

The Phlebotomy Training Center, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, offers a Phlebotomy Training Program. This is a specialized trade school and one of the oldest phlebotomy schools in the USA.
The training center offers two levels of phlebotomy training. The Basic Phlebotomy program includes 30 hours of didactic instruction as well as 30 hours of clinical practice. Students who enroll in this program will take classes two nights a week for one month. Classes are 3.5 hours each. Following classroom instruction, students will complete 30 hours of clinical training during the day at a local hospital or clinic.
During the course of this program students will be trained in phlebotomy procedures such as venipuncture and capillary puncture. They will be able to perform these practices on anyone from newborns to adult patients.



Reading Area Community College

Programs Offered: Diagnostic Technician Phlebotomy Program

Location: Reading (10 South Second Street, Reading, PA 19603)

Reading Area Community College, located in Reading, Pennsylvania, offers a Diagnostic Technician Phlebotomy Program.
This program will prepare students to become phlebotomy technicians and will qualify them to work in a hospital, laboratory, physician’s office or other healthcare settings. Students will primarily be trained in collecting and handling blood as well as performing EKG’s.
The first phase of this program will consist of classroom training that will involve basic medical courses and a word processing course. The second phase of this phlebotomy program will include an intensive clinical training. This is a 240 hour clinical that students will participate in at Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
The tuition for this program is $4,945. An additional cost of approximately $500 should be expected for books and supplies.



The Medical Learning Center

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

The Medical Learning Center, located in York, Pennsylvania, offers a Phlebotomy program for those who are interested in a career in the Allied Health field. This program will prepare individuals for entry level jobs in hospitals, laboratories, doctor’s offices and more.
This program will provide students with hands-on training in the proper ways and techniques of performing venipuncture and medical equipment. They will also be trained in universal precautions, infection control procedures, specimen handling issues and blood collecting complications.
Classes are held over a two day period from 9am – 3pm. The cost of this program is $500 and includes the cost of textbooks.

Venango College - Clarion University

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program

Venango College at Clarion University offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program.
This program costs $1599, which includes the cost of tuition and books.
This is a 90 hour program that will prepare individuals to collect and handle blood specimens for laboratory analysis and testing. The program includes classroom instruction, lab exercises and a clinical practice. Training includes terminology, anatomy and physiology, blood collections procedures, specimen hands-on practice and techniques to perform puncture methods.
Once students complete the classroom instruction hours and lab exercises they will then complete a 100 hour clinical practice in al local hospital or physician’s office.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be eligible to take the National Phlebotomy Certification Examination to gain entry-level work as a phlebotomist.



Community College of Philadelphia

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Certificate Program

Location: Philadelphia (1700 Spring Garden Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130)

The Community College of Philadelphia offers a Phlebotomy Certificate Program. This program meets the approval of standards set forth by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.
This phlebotomy program can be completed in one semester. The program can be broken up into three phases which include two hours of lecture, three hours of laboratory exercises and eight hours of a clinical rotation each week. The clinical rotation will take place in a local hospital laboratory or outpatient facility.
Individuals who wish to enroll in this program must have a high school diploma or GED, complete a physical exam, immunizations, criminal record check and drug screening and must also have verification of medical insurance.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be eligible to sit for the PBT (ASCP) Certification examination.



Star Career Academy

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

Location: Norristown (2501 Monroe Boulevard, Norristown, PA 19403); Philadelphia (2371 Welsh Road, Philadelphia, PA 19114)

Star Career Academy offers a phlebotomy training program for individuals who have previous work experience in the medical field.
The Academy conveniently has three locations in Pennsylvania, including two in Philadelphia and one in Norristown. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm-10pm and Saturday from 8am-4pm at each location. The program consists of a total of 120 hours of training and can be completed in approximately 8 weeks.
Training for this program will prepare students with the proper techniques and skills needed for drawing blood by way of venipuncture and capillary puncture as well as label, transport and test those specimens. During training students will complete 25 live venipunctures and 5 capillary draws.
The price for this program is $1,035.
Students who successfully complete this program will be prepared to take the National Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification exam.



Bucks Community College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Certificate Program

Location: Newton (275 Swamp Road, Newton, PA 18940)

Bucks Community College, located in Newton, Pennsylvania, offers a Phlebotomy Program that will lead to certification.
This training program is made up of classroom instruction, laboratory exercises and a phlebotomy externship. During each phase, students will gain theoretical and practical knowledge associated with drawing, transporting and testing blood and other bodily fluid specimens.
Students will complete a total of 16 credit hours in courses such as Basic Human Anatomy, Medical Terminology, Phlebotomy Procedures and Techniques, and Medical Law and Ethics. Students will also complete a total of 160 externship hours in a local medical facility.
The total cost for this program is $3,038 which includes tuition, fees, books and supplies.
Upon successful completion of this program students will be qualified to work as entry level phlebotomists in physician offices, laboratories, clinics and other health care facilities.
