Central New Mexico Community College

Programs Offered: Certificate of Achievement in Phlebotomy Technician







Location: Albuquerque (525 Buena Vista Dr. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106)

Central New Mexico Community College, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, offers a Certificate of Achievement in Phlebotomy Technician program.
This phlebotomy program requires nine credit hours and three courses to be completed for certification. The first of these courses is a four credit hour Phlebotomy Theory program. This course is the initial stage of training for future phlebotomists and includes training in venipuncture and skin puncture procedures, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, quality assurance and medico-legal issues. The second course is a two credit hour lab. During this 90 hour lab, students will practice phlebotomy procedures on artificial arms. The final course is a three credit hour Clinical Phlebotomy course. During this course, students will be given the opportunity to practice phlebotomy procedures on live patients. This course includes 135 clinical hours.



Eastern New Mexico University

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technique Training

Location: Portales (1500 S Avenue K, Portales, NM 88130)

Eastern New Mexico University is located in Portales, New Mexico and offers a Phlebotomy Technique training program. Upon successful completion of this program, students will receive a certificate of completion in Phlebotomy from the University. They will then be eligible to take the nationally recognized ASCP certification exam. This is a non-credit program.
This program consists of 40 lecture hours and 100 clinical hours in a lab at Plains Regional Medical Center. Classes are held on Tuesdays from 5:30pm – 9pm and the program can be completed in 2.5 months. The program costs $500.
To enroll in this program, students must have proof a high school diploma or GED, photo ID, social security card, and payment of course upon registration. Students will also have to get fingerprinting done, show proof of immunizations and acquire liability insurance.



New Mexico State University - Dona Ana Community College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Certificate Program

Location: Las Cruces (2800 N. Sonoma Ranch Blvd, Las Cruces, NM 88011)

Dona Ana Community College, located in Las Cruces, New Mexico, offers a Phlebotomy Certificate Program. This program will prepare students to work as a phlebotomist in a professional healthcare setting that specializes in extracting blood specimens for testing and analysis. Upon successful completions of this course, students will be eligible to sit for the NHA national exam to become a certified phlebotomist.
Training for this program includes classroom instruction time as well as 30 clinical hours. These clinical hours are completed on the students own time and are separate from class time. The Phlebotomist Basic class is 4 credit hours.
Individuals who wish to enroll in this program must provide proof of immunizations, a current CPR card and complete a drug screening and background check.



San Juan College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

Location: Farmington (4601 College Boulevard, Farmington, NM 87402)

San Juan College is located in Farmington, New Mexico and offers a Phlebotomy program. This program will enable students to take the national certification examination upon successful completion.
Students will be prepared to work as entry level phlebotomists in a hospital, clinic, physician’s office, and more. In these settings, individuals will collect blood specimens by performing phlebotomy procedures for testing and analysis.
This phlebotomy program is a 4 credit hour program. The first 2 credits are made up of classroom lectures discussing anatomy, equipment, specimen processing, safety and more. The final 2 credits are made up of a supervised, 100 hour clinical rotation where students will perform at least 100 documented blood procurements. The total cost of this program is $695 and includes tuition, fees, books, lab coats, back ground checks and more.



Santa Fe Community College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Program

Location: Santa Fe (6401 Richards Avenue, Santa Fe, NM 87508)

Santa Fe Community College offers a Phlebotomy program that leads to certification. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the national licensing examination through the American Society for Clinical Pathology. As a certified phlebotomist, individuals will be prepared to work under the supervision of a clinical laboratory supervisor and will have the skills necessary for collecting, processing and testing blood specimens.
This is a 12.25 credit hour program. Courses included in this program are Basic Life Support – Introduction to Phlebotomy, Clinical Phlebotomy I, Clinical Phlebotomy II and Special Practices in Phlebotomy. This program can be completed in just one semester, or 16 weeks. Students will gain classroom instruction and lecture as well as hands-on training.



University of New Mexico

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Certificate Program

Location: Albuquerque (1634 University Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102)

The University of New Mexico, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, offers a Phlebotomy Certificate program. This is a nine week program that includes 120 hours of study. The first 60 hours are made up of classroom instruction time that includes theory, lecture and review. Students will also participate in 60 hours of lab and 100 hours of clinical experience at a local clinic.
This program includes three courses that are offered throughout the year. The first course is a 3 credit hour Discovery Phlebotomy course. The second is a 240 hour Phlebotomy Essentials, Laboratory, Clinical experience course. Finally, there is a 36 hour Work Skills course.
Students who enroll in the three courses as the Phlebotomy Student Package will pay $2989.
