Students who participate in this program will be prepared to properly work with certain medical equipment that will allow them to draw blood as wells as test and analyze the results. They will then be enabled to interpret the laboratory results. Venipuncture, dermal puncture and transportation of specimens are all included in this training program.







This program provides classes four days per week for 5 weeks. Each class is five hours long and students will complete a total of 100 hours of training.

This program combines classroom instruction and clinical education to prepare the student with the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are necessary and expected for a phlebotomist. Training will enable individuals to obtain blood specimens through venipuncture and micro techniques as well as cover subjects such as anatomy and physiology, laboratory testing, documentation of patient records and more.

The phlebotomy program can be broken up into four phases that include Introduction to Clinical Phlebotomy, Principle of Infection Control, Clinical Competencies and Diagnostic Procedures and Medical Laboratory. Once students have successfully completed this program they will be able to perform basic phlebotomy procedures, including venipuncture, strait needle and winged infusion.



American Institute of Medical Sciences & Education

The American Institute of Medical Sciences & Education, located in Piscataway, New Jersey offers a combined Electrocardiography and Phlebotomy Technician Program. This program will prepare individuals to work as entry-level technicians in the Allied Health and Medical Services field.

This program includes 160 hours of didactic and clinical components. Students will earn a total of 5.3 credit hours that can be put towards a degree. For the convenience of the individual, students may choose to take either day or evening classes to complete the program as smoothly as possible.

All that is required for students to apply and enroll in this program is to have a high school diploma or GED and a desire to work alongside doctors and nurses as a phlebotomist.

AMG Medical Institute, located in Paterson, New Jersey offers a Phlebotomy Technician Program. This program will prepare students to obtain the necessary skills they need for working as a professional Phlebotomist. These skills will include collecting blood specimens by either venipuncture or dermal puncture. Other skills will include testing and analyzing the specimens, properly labeling and handling them and transporting them.







Students who wish to enroll in this program should expect to complete 205 hours of phlebotomy training. This training will include 125 hours in the classroom and 80 hours in an internship. Students may conveniently choose to take classes during the day, evening or weekends.

Once students have successfully completed this program, they will be eligible to take the National Certification examination to become a Phlebotomy Technician in the state of New Jersey.



Atlantic Community College

AVTECH Institute of Technology

AVTECH Institute of Technology has several locations throughout New Jersey that offer a Certified Phlebotomy Technician program. These locations include South Plainfield, Fairfield and Eatontown.

This phlebotomy program includes 200 hours of training which can be split up into two phases.

The first phase includes classroom instruction which covers medical terminology and the structure, physiology and pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system.

The second component will prepare students to work in a doctor’s office, clinical setting or hospital as a phlebotomy technician. These two components of phlebotomy training will prepare students to work at the entry-level as a phlebotomist.

Individuals who are considering enrolling in this program must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, and complete a background check.



Branford Institute

This program can be completed in 4 weeks is a total of 200 hours to complete. Students who successfully complete the program will be eligible to become registered and certified phlebotomy technicians. Once the program is completed, students may also choose to go to a non-mandatory internship to gain extra experience and training. This internship can be completed in a clinic, doctor’s office, hospital or laboratory. During training, students will learn to accurately draw blood as well as handle and transport it to the laboratory. Other skills that will be acquired include front office responsibilities, inputting information in the computer data base, download and print out lab results and more.



Brookdale Community College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Certification

Brookdale Community College is located in Lincroft, New Jersey and offers a Phlebotomy Technician Certification. This is a 148 hour program that can be broken up that can be broken up into didactic and clinical training. Students will complete hours in the classroom, including lectures and laboratory practice, as well as 100 clinical hours. Through training, students will be prepared to collect blood samples to test and analyze them. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the American Society of Clinical Pathologists national certification examination.

To enroll in this program, individuals must have a high school diploma or GED, complete a physical exam and have documentation of immunizations, and clear a background check. This program costs $1495.



Cumberland County College

Programs Offered: Certified Phlebotomy Technician

Cumberland County College offers a certified phlebotomy technician program.

The program starts with a 90-hour classroom lecture, covering healthcare delivery system, materials and equipment of blood collection, procedures and techniques of venipuncture and capillary, and more.

Then the students need to complete 30 venipuncture and 10 capillary sticks, before they will be ready for the National Certification Exam by NHA.

Finally, the students need to participate an 80-hour externship at local medical facilities.

Founded in 1966, Cumberland County College is one of the premier community colleges in New Jersey.



Healthcare Training Institute

This program is made up of 120 hours and can be broken up into three phases. The first phase includes 20 hours of Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology. The second phase includes 59 hours of Phlebotomy training and the third phase includes 41 hours of EKG training.

Classes for this program can be taken during the day, evening or weekend, making the program convenient for students to take. Day classes are held Monday through Thursday from 8:15am to 2:45pm. Evening classes are held on Monday through Thursday from 6pm to 9:30pm. Evening classes are held from 9am until 2pm.

Successful completion of this program will allow students to perform entry level work as an EKG technician or a Phlebotomist.

The cost of this program is $2,275. Students must also be prepared to purchase the textbook at $44.95 and clear a criminal background check.

This program includes both didactic and lab components as well as a clinical component. Didactic and lab training are completed over a two month period. Students will complete 19 4-hour sessions on Tuesday and Thursday. The clinical component lasts one week, is 4 hours per day and is a total of 30 sessions that are held Monday through Friday.



Rutgers School of Health Professions

The program is a composed of theoretical lectures, 12-hour on-campus student laboratory, and clinical rotation. The covered subjects include venipuncture and skin punctures, anatomy and physiology, infection control, quality assurance, and more. Students need to complete at least 100 venipuncture and skin punctures, during a period 100 hours in 15 days.

With over 11,000 alumni, Rutgers School of Health Professions is one the largest health professions schools in the nation, and teaches 1,700 students in 40 degrees and certificates.



Salem County Vocational Technical School

Programs Offered: Certified Phlebotomy Technician

Salem County Educational Technology Training Center offers a Phlebotomy Technician program that leads to certification. This program is located in Woodstown, New Jersey. Through training, students will be prepared to collect, handle, transport and process blood specimens. They will be eligible to work in hospital and commercial laboratories, clinics, medical offices, blood banks and other similar places.







Students will be trained through classroom instruction and labs. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians examination to become a Certified Phlebotomist.

The tuition for this program is $875 which does not include textbooks, uniforms or examination fees. Classes begin in January and April and are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30pm – 8:30 pm.
