Coahama Community College offers a phlebotomy training program that is designed to provide students with the skill set that they will need to pursue a career in the healthcare industry. This program can be completed in two semesters and upon the successful completion of training, graduates will receive a certificate of completion from the college.
In addition to learning phlebotomy skills, students will also learn basic EKG skills which can improve their employability. In order to apply, students must have a social security card, immunization records, an official copy of a high school transcript or official GED, and more. At East Mississippi Community College students can receive the training that they will need to pursue a career in the medical industry. This phlebotomy training option is designed to teach students to: calm patients and communicate effectively with them, to adhere to all safety policies and procedures, to work well under pressure, and more. Classes will meet two nights a week for eight weeks during the first portion of training. During this time, students will participate in lecture and laboratory practice which will help to prepare them for the hands-on requirements of the career.
The second portion of the curriculum is a clinical rotation which will take place at an area medical facility and during this time students must complete 100 hours of supervised phlebotomy experience. Hinds Community College offers two phlebotomy training options which are both designed to prepare students for a career in the healthcare industry. The Phlebotomy Training Program is a 160-hour option which includes lecture, laboratory, and clinical experience. The class typically meets twice a week for a semester and classes begin in the fall and spring semester. In order to apply, students must have a high school diploma or GED; submit an ACT score, and more.
The Phlebotomy-Fast Track Training Option is an 80-hour training option that is offered each year during the fall and spring semesters. The classes typically meet one evening per week and the curriculum is divided between classroom training as well as a clinical rotation, which provides students with an opportunity to have hands-on practice utilizing phlebotomy.

Medical Certification Agency offers a phlebotomy training option that may be a good choice for individuals that need a short-term skill training specific program .This is an intense one-day, hands-on phlebotomy with EKG workshop option that covers a wide range of topics and skills. The topics covered include: blood smears, pediatrics, needle/syringe draws, butterfly needles, and in the EKG option, you will learn how to set up and perform EKG.
This program however, is not offered consistently as the training location and dates vary. You can visit the site to learn more regarding upcoming dates in your area, and also to register for a session.
In order to apply, applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma/GED and the total fee to attend this workshop is $400.00, which covers the phlebotomy training (the EKG portion of the second option is integrated for free).

At Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, students can receive the training that they will need to pursue a career in the healthcare industry. This option is an intensive 140-hour course of study that is designed to provide students for immediate employment in either a hospital or clinical setting.
Classes meet on campus (40 hours) during which time students will have a chance to practice in a laboratory setting and in addition, they will also receive didactic training to prepare them for hands- on experience. The remaining 100 hours consist of clinical experience which provides students with an opportunity to utilize the skills that they have learned in a functioning medical environment.

The University of Southern Mississippi offers a phlebotomy training program that is designed to provide students with the skill set that they will need to pursue a career in the healthcare industry. There are two separate options that students can choose between, one being a non-credit training course and the other being an undergraduate credit (applicants of this option must be admitted into Southern Miss).
The noncredit option costs $250.00/phase and the courses are divided as follows: Phase 1 and Phase 2 which is the clinical portion. Phase 1 contains the didactic training and can be completed online whereas Phase 2 is a phlebotomy practicum which provides students with an opportunity to utilize the skills that they have learned in a functioning medical environment. Upon the successful completion of training, graduates will receive a certification of completion from the college.
