The phlebotomy program offered at Alexandria Technical College is designed to provide students with the skill set that they will need to pursue a career in the healthcare industry. The training curriculum consists of 19 total credits, and 33 class hours per week. The entire program can be completed in just one semester.

In order to apply, individuals must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED. This curriculum is divided between online training, and in class training; as long as it is in accordance with the well-being of patients.

Information regarding the upcoming training locations is released quarterly, as brochures for each session are mailed one month before the training begins. This program could be a good choice for those that are already medical professionals, but would like to improve their skill set.

Classes typically last at least one hour, and when available, contact hours will be granted. Topics covered in this curriculum include: INR, Electrolytes, UA, Phlebotomy, Basic lab values, and more.



Hennepin County Medical Center

At Hennepin County Medical Center, students can receive the training that they will need to pursue a career in the healthcare industry. The curriculum can be completed in twelve weeks and is divided between classroom learning as well as clinical experience. This training option consists of 148 hours of training, 100 of which are to be completed in a clinical experience. Students must ensure that they will be available to attend daytime hours for 2-3 weeks as the clinical portion can only be completed during the day.

In order to be accepted into the training program, students must: have proof of immunization, pass the pre-test, pass a background check, and more.

This program is divided into 2 days of online training and one day of hands-on practice. The lessons and quizzes can be completed at your own pace, but they must be completed before students can attend the hands-on portion of the curriculum.

The third day of training will take place from 9am-4pm at the designated training location (information will be provided by the program).
