Crown Medical Center offers a comprehensive Phlebotomy training program for those men and women who are interested in getting their start in health care or advancing their skills.
This program covers all aspects of Phlebotomy. Students will learn about anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, procedures for blood collection, specimen collection, and more. Learning will include tutorials, laboratory practice, clinical practice, and live blood draws. Each student in this program must complete a total of 100 classroom hours and 30 clinical hours.
In order to enroll in this program, students must have a high school diploma or GED and be in good enough physical condition to perform the duties of a Phlebotomist.

Hennepin County Medical Center

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Program

The Phlebotomy Technician training program at Hennepin County Medical Center is a very hands on program that is designed to prepare students to be effective Phlebotomists.
This program runs for 12 weeks. Some of the topics that will be covered include medical terminology, anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system, venipuncture techniques, arterial puncture techniques, skin puncture techniques, specimen processing, safety, and legal concerns.
Instruction for this course will be a mixture of lectures, lab demonstrations, technical evaluations and clinical experience.
The clinical experience begins in an outpatient setting. After four weeks, students will spend at least four hours per day drawing blood in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Students will work with all types of patients and learn techniques for a variety of blood draws.

Minneapolis Community & Technical College

Minneapolis Community and Technical College offers a certificate program in phlebotomy that can help students to get on track towards a rewarding career in health care.
This program is worth 16 credits and is approved by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Services.
In this program, students will earn about the role and responsibilities of the phlebotomist. They will have the opportunity to learn about the theory of phlebotomy and to practice their skills. Students will become familiar with different types of specimen collection and blood draw techniques. They will also receive lectures on medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, communication skills, professionalism, and blood collection procedures.
Once students complete this program and become certified, they may go on to work at medical clinics, hospitals, blood donation centers, or insurance agencies.

St. Catherine University

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Certificate Program

The phlebotomy certificate program at St. Catherine University is focused on teaching its students how to provide quality care without sacrificing compassion. This is an accredited program that will qualify students to take the certification exam and become Certified Phlebotomy Technicians.
This program includes three courses, Phlebotomy, Medical Terminology, and Phlebotomy Clinical. It takes just one semester to complete. The cost of this program is $304 per credit.
Students enrolled in this program will have the opportunity to train in the classroom and to gain valuable hands on experience in a hands on clinical setting. Students will learn techniques for blood drawing and specimen collection and how to function in a health care environment.
