Acadiana Area Career College

At Acadiana Area Career College, students can receive the training that they will need to pursue a career in the medical field. This phlebotomy training option consists of 200 hours of classroom training (10 weeks) plus one mandated week of clinical, during which time students will receive a chance to obtain hands-on practice utilizing venipuncture and putting the knowledge that they received in the classroom into context in a functioning medical environment.

The curriculum of this program includes: special collection techniques, CPR, blood circulation, medical terminology, preparation of blood smears, and more. The classes of this option are offered Monday through Thursday from 8:30am to 2:00 pm.

The tuition of this program totals $2,200.00 and this price includes the registration fee, books, and supplies.



Bossier Parish Community College

Programs Offered: Certificate of Technical Studies in Phlebotomy

Bossier Parish Community College offers a phlebotomy training program that is designed to provide students with the skill set that they will need to become employed in the healthcare industry. The program itself consists of a pre-clinical component and a clinical component. The pre-clinical portion can be completed at the student’s preferred pace which can be either part-time or full-time. Students must receive a grade of “C” or better in all pre-clinical courses to attend the clinical portion of training. The program curriculum is designed so that the pre-clinical and the clinical portion can both be completed in one semester each (4 months per semester) and includes a total of 26 credit hours.

Upon the successful completion of both portions of training, graduates become eligible to sit for a national certification exam which, if passed, can help to improve their employability as they begin to apply for jobs.



Cameron College

Programs Offered: Advanced Phlebotomy Diploma Program

At Cameron College, students can train to become a phlebotomist in as little as 37 semester hours. The curriculum is designed to provide individuals with a plethora of skills including: basic medical science concepts, knowledge of medical office administration, proficiency in clinical laboratory techniques, and more. This program is part of the Employee Training courses offered by the college, so students can receive a specific and detailed education of the career they are interested in.

Upon the successful completion of the 35 week program (approximately), graduates will be awarded a diploma. Additionally, Cameron College works closely with graduates and potential graduates to assist in finding employment in their field of study.

Crescent City Career Institute offers a phlebotomy technician training option that can be completed in only 8 weeks. Classes are offered two evenings per week from 6pm-8pm so please ensure that your availability can accommodate this schedule. Students must also complete an externship, during which time they must complete 50 hours and 100 successful sticks.

In order to apply to this training option, applicants must have a current valid photo ID, a high school diploma or GED, a resume, immunization records, and more. Additionally, students must complete a nationwide criminal background check which costs $43.50 and the site provides a link to the preferred service that you can use.

This curriculum focuses on teaching students how to collect blood specimens from patients, as well as any other additional skills that will be needed to obtain employment in the medical field.



Delgado Community College

Delgado Community College offers a phlebotomy training program that is designed to provide students with the diverse skill set that they will need to become professionals in the healthcare industry. The curriculum can be completed in one semester and consists of 12 total credit hours. The program is divided into both lecture courses and a phlebotomy practicum.

The last three weeks of the semester students will participate in a phlebotomy practicum and will be expected to work 8 hours a day. Please ensure that your availability will allow for this requirement.

In order to be accepted into the program, students must have proof of recent immunizations, have CPR certification, complete a health examination, and they must agree to both a criminal background check and drug test.



Delta School of Business and Technology (Delta Tech)

At Delta School of Business and Technology (Delta Tech), students can receive the training that they will need to qualify for entry-level employment in the healthcare industry. The program consists of 3.75 total credit hours and can typically be completed in 12 weeks. Graduates of this training option will receive a Certificate of Achievement from the school which recognizes their success in completing all of the required portions of training.

The courses covered in this option include: Introduction to Phlebotomy, Venipuncture and Dermal Puncture, Special Phlebotomy Procedures, Practicing Phlebotomy, and more. Utilizing both classroom training and hands-on practice, students can obtain a thorough understanding of phlebotomy and its practice.

Upon the successful completion of this training, students will become eligible to sit for a national licensure exam, which, if passed, can qualify them for entry-level employment.



Fletcher Technical Community College

Fletcher Technical Community College offers a phlebotomy training program that consists of 315 total clock hours, and 16 total credit hours. In order to apply, students must have a high school diploma or GED and they must also have official copies of their ACT and COMPASS scores, and all official copies of college transcripts (if applicable).

Once enrolled in the program, all requirements must be completed with an average of 2.0 or higher in order to receive the Technical Competency Area Certificate. Some specific courses in the curriculum are: Medical Terminology, Professionalism for Healthcare Providers, Phlebotomy Techniques, Body Structure and Function, and more.

Northwest Louisiana Technical College offers a training program that can help students train to become medical professionals. The phlebotomy option offered here is a Technical Competency Area (TCA) certificate program.

The curriculum includes topics such as: medical terminology, introduction to healthcare, professionalism for health care providers, customer service and sales, phlebotomy procedures/skills, and more. The phlebotomy procedures/skills portion consists of 201 total clock hours, so this program will likely not be completed within one semester. Courses are divided between both lecture and lab hours so students will receive a thorough understanding of phlebotomy and its practice.

This particular option is a 13 week training option with 70 total classroom hours and 120 clinical hours that must be completed. Clinical hours are arranged over a three week period and they will occur during the day so please ensure that your availability can enable this schedule.

In order to apply, students must have a high school diploma or GED, a letter written from the student to the school, and students must complete an application and make the necessary payment of an application fee.

Southern University at Shreveport

Southern University at Shreveport offers a competitive phlebotomy training program that is designed to provide students with the skill set that they will need to pursue a career in the medical field. In order to apply, students must have a high school diploma or equivalent, three (3) letters of recommendation, college transcripts (if applicable), and a GPA of 2.0 or better.

Admission into the clinical practicum is competitive and based upon the number of clinical spaces available at local affiliated hospitals and other clinical facilities.

The goal of this option is to provide students with enough knowledge of phlebotomy and its practice so that they can obtain entry level employment in the medical field. The curriculum covers topics such as: collecting, transporting, handling and processing blood specimens for analysis, identifying and selecting equipment, and more.



St. Agatha Career School

At St. Agatha Career School, students can receive the training that they will need to pursue a career in the medical field. This course consists of 200 hours of training and is designed to teach students how to safely and hygienically draw blood.

The goal of this course is to prepare individuals for the responsibilities that they will have as they seek entry-level employment as a phlebotomist.

Applicants must be at least 17 years of age, have had a complete tuberculosis screening, have favorable background check results, and they must submit application for enrollment and registration fee.

The tuition is not very expensive, but there are some limited financial assistance options for individuals that need it. Students can also choose to pay with a payment plan.

Unitech Training Academy offers a phlebotomy training program that also prepares students for a career as an EKG technician. Upon the successful completion of this option, graduates should be prepared to work closely with doctors, nurses, and other allied health professionals.

The curriculum utilizes classroom learning, simulated laboratory settings, and a clinical externship to provide students with a thorough understanding of phlebotomy and its practice. This training helps individuals qualify for entry level employment in the healthcare industry.
