The Adult and Community Education School offers a 165 hour training course for students that are new to the medical field. In addition, individuals that are currently working in the health care industry can attend the 65 hour continuing education option.

The curriculum includes: safety precautions, patients’ rights, anatomy and physiology, and the correct methods for collecting and storing blood samples.

There are no prerequisites required to enter this training, and both financial aid and payment plans are available for those that need financial assistance. Applicants are not required to take any examinations prior to entering the program. Cambridge Institute of Allied Health and Technology

The phlebotomy certification class offered at the Cambridge Institute of Allied Health and Technology is an 11 week diploma program that has a total of 220 clock hours. The curriculum is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and training that will be necessary to pass a national certification exam, which will then enable them to seek employment in the medical field. Some topics covered are infection control procedures, specimen collection, transporting specimens, and how to perform blood draws.

The phlebotomy training program is only offered at the Altamonte Springs Campus, and the training is divided into two separate courses that are in place to provide students with a thorough understanding of phlebotomy and its practice. The hands-on portion of training is designed to ensure that students become competent in venipuncture, and to increase students’ confidence in their abilities.



City College

Programs Offered: Diploma in Phlebotomy

In order to apply for this program, applicants must submit proof of a physical examination, a PPD (Tuberculosis Screen), and Hepatitis Series performed by a physician or other licensed health care provider. These tests must be completed prior to enrolling in the phlebotomy procedures and clinical lab procedures portions of training.

Upon being accepted into the program, students will begin training for licensure as well as entry-level employment. The core courses of this option include: medical emergencies-CPR, phlebotomy procedures, phlebotomy externship, clinical laboratory procedures, and medical law and ethics.

Those who complete this program become eligible to sit for a national certification exam which can prepare them for entry-level employment in a functioning medical facility. College of Central Florida

The College of Central Florida offers a phlebotomy training course that includes both classroom learning and laboratory practice. These varying approaches to phlebotomy are in place to prepare students for a career in the medical field as a phlebotomist. The program runs for a little over a month, and the total course fee is $499. In addition to this tuition, students will also need the required textbook.

Students can enroll either online, at the college, or via the telephone so all individuals can find a way to apply that suits their availability.

Erwin Technical Center

Programs Offered: Part-Time Phlebotomy Training Program

The phlebotomy training program offered at Erwin Technical Center is a part-time evening option that is designed to provide medical professionals with a refresher course in their knowledge of phlebotomy, as well as their venipuncture capabilities. In order to become accepted, documentation of your employment may be required.

The course tuition is $137.43, and classes are offered Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 9pm. The course curriculum includes: safe and effective work practices, collecting blood samples by capillary and venipuncture methods using an adult simulated arm, and communication skills. The tuition must be paid at the time of registration unless otherwise noted, and this school accepts cash, credit cards, or checks. On-site registration takes place Mondays through Thursdays between 8am and 8pm and Fridays from 8am to 4pm.

The phlebotomy training offered here is geared towards preparing students for the certification exam that will be necessary to become certified. It consists of 80 hours and the total cost of it is $800. A $100 deposit will hold your spot so you are guaranteed a seat. This training option also offers an 8 hour phlebotomy workshop that costs only $200 with a $50 deposit required. Depending upon your needs, you can choose between either of the programs and improve your employability and knowledge of phlebotomy. The program offered at Florida Medical Training Institute is a diploma program that is designed to provide students with an understanding of both phlebotomy and entry level EKG responsibilities. The clock hours of this option total 200, and of those 200, 120 hours are spent in an externship.

The externship can take less time depending upon how much students get done at any given point in the training. Upon completing the externship, students must have successfully completed 50 venipunctures and a minimum of 10 EKG tracings.

The first 50 hours are spent learning phlebotomy, and in the second portion of training, 30 hours are spent learning basic EKG skills.

Students must also complete 25 skin punctures and observe 5 atrail punctures (completed during training).



Fortis College

The training program offered at Fortis College teaches students basic ECG skills as well as lab assistant skills in addition to phlebotomy. This diverse training is in place to provide students with a plethora of skills that can help them to seek employment in the medical field. Although this may not be the best choice for those that are looking for a short-term refresher course, this could be a good option for a variety of individuals. This is a good option for students that are looking for a program that is primarily focused upon phlebotomy, with some additional skills ECG and lab assistant duties taught throughout the program.

Indian River State College

In order to apply for the phlebotomy training program offered at Indian River State College, you must be at least 18 years of age prior to the first day of class, you must meet the minimum TABE scores, complete a drug screen, fingerprint, and criminal background check. Additionally, you must provide an official transcript and copies of your SAT or ACT scores.

The program consists of 165 clock hours, and the curriculum is divided between classroom training and clinical lab experience. The entire program is separated into: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Basic Concepts of Phlebotomy, and a Phlebotomy Practicum. These various courses are designed to teach students how to label specimens, prepare blood smears, obtain blood specimens, and how to aid in patient comfort.



Lake Technical Center

Lake Technical Center offers a 165 hour phlebotomy training option that can prepare students for both employment and to sit for a national licensure exam. In order to apply, students must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and they must currently be employed in direct patient care. The tuition of this course is $475.20 plus the cost of books and fees.

The curriculum covers topics such as: law and ethics, safety and infection control, essential skills necessary to performing venipuncture, and patient communication and education. It should also be noted that this program has an online component so applicants should have access to a computer. Lively Technical Center

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician Training Program

The phlebotomy training program offered at Lively Technical Center is a full-time course that is designed to prepare students for a career in the medical field. There is no financial assistance available for this option, and upon successfully completing training students become eligible to sit for a national certification exam.

The program consists of 165 training hours and classes are given Monday through Thursday 8:00am to 4:00pm. The tuition for this program is just below $1,000.00 however, the price can change with each semester. In order to apply students must be at least 18 years of age, they must submit to a background check and drug screening prior to beginning the program, and they must have a high school diploma or GED, and more.

At the North Florida Medical Institute you can receive the training that you will need to pursue a career in phlebotomy, and there are both morning and evening schedules offered. In order to apply you must be at least 18 years of age, and the training is based on the current phlebotomy standards as recommended by the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). There is a $200.00 enrollment fee that is due at the time of registration, and you must register at least one week prior to the first class. There will be some pre-requisite work required, but the information will be provided to students before beginning training.

The classes are only offered in the morning and total sixty vocational hours.

Sarasota County Technical Institute

The curriculum is designed to provide students with an understanding of both phlebotomy and its techniques, as well as an understanding of the correct ways to communicate and interact in a medical facility. Upon the successful completion of training, graduates become eligible to sit for a national certification exam which can increase their employability as they seek employment. This option is divided into two portions which are “Basic Healthcare Worker” which consists of 90 hours and “Phlebotomist” which consists of 75 hours.

In order to apply, students must have a criminal background check, a physical exam, a T.B. Test, and proof of Rubella immunity.

This phlebotomy program is a certificate non-credit option that is designed to prepare students for a career in the medical field. The program can be completed in only 8 weeks, and it can also be used by medical professionals that would like to refresh their knowledge or receive additional training.

The curriculum focuses specifically on the duties and responsibilities that students will have when they enter the workforce as well as familiarizing students with typical laboratory specimens, the different types of anticoagulants, preservatives and gels used in blood collection, and the types of equipment used for blood drawing.

Southwest Florida Technical Institute

In order to successfully complete the program, students must obtain 30 venipunctures and 10 capillary collections. Ultimate Medical Academy

This option is designed to prepare students for an entry level position as a phlebotomist in a variety of medical facilities. Some topics covered include: clinical techniques, HIV/AIDS core training, anatomy and physiology of the circulatory system, aseptic concepts and infection control, and more. This option also emphasizes hands-on practice which can help students become confident and competent as they enter the workforce.

The tuition of this option is $438.90 plus the cost of books, lab fees, and uniforms. There is also a $35.00 non-refundable application fee that is due at the time of applying to this option. Financial aid is not available due to the program length.
