Progressive Academic Learning

Programs Offered: Certified Phlebotomy Technician Program

The Phlebotomy Technician training program at Progressive Academic Learning spans 90 total hours of training. Students will be exposed to various methods of instruction including lecture, discussion, classroom lab and a clinical practicum.

During their 50 hours of in class training, students will learn about how to process and interact with patients and various methods of blood collection. Students will be trained in the proper techniques for using vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles and blood culture specimen collection.







During the clinical portion of the course, which is 40 hours long, students will be required to perform a minimum of 25 regular blood draws and 10 capillary punctures.

Upon completing this course, students will be eligible to take the certification exam and become Certified Phlebotomy Technicians.





Health Care Solutions & Career Group

Health Care Solutions and Career Group is a state of Michigan approved proprietary school that specializes in health care training. They offer a four week long Phlebotomy training course for interested students.

This is an entry-level course for those who do not have experience with Phlebotomy. It is a good option for students who are just starting out in the health care field or for CNAs or other health care workers who want to expand their skill set and enhance their employability.

Students who wish to gain certification through this program must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED.

The cost of this program is $600, and payment plans are available.



Macomb County Community College

Wayne County Community College District

Wayne County Community College District offers a very comprehensive two semester long Phlebotomy training program that will fully prepare students to start a new career in health care.

During the first semester of this program, students will take four courses: Medical Terminology, Medical Computer Systems, Introduction to Phlebotomy, and Pediatric Phlebotomy.

The second semester’s schedule will be made up of three courses: Medical Ethics, Introduction to Biology, and Introduction to Phlebotomy II Practicum.

By the end of this course, students will know how to effectively communicate with patients and they will have a fully developed set of Phlebotomy skills. Students will have the opportunity to practice these skills in their Phlebotomy practicum.

Students who successfully complete this course and pass the national certification exam will be registered as Certified Phlebotomy Technicians.
