Brookhaven College offers a 90-hour Phlebotomy Technician training program that is designed to teach students the basics about drawing blood and collecting specimens.

Some of the topics that will be covered in this course include anatomy, medical terminology, infection prevention, patient ID, professionalism and ethics.

Students will also receive hands on training. They will develop Phlebotomy skills and learn how to properly collect and handle specimens. Technical skills like using vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles and blood culture will also be practiced during this course.

This course can be taken during the morning from 9 a.m. to noon, or the evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuition for this course costs $1220.

Eastfield College

El Centro College

This school offers a comprehensive Phlebotomy Technician program that includes both in class instruction and hands on clinical experience.

The lecture portion of this program includes 80 total hours of instruction. This class meets on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Once students pass the lecture course with a grade of “C” or higher, they may enroll in the clinical portion of the program. Clinical hours may vary, but the schedules are available online.

Tuition for the lecture course is $450. The clinical tuition is $500. There is an optional CPR course that costs $60.

Mountain View College

The first two days of training are completed entirely online. Here students will learn about Phlebotomy at their own pace and complete a series of quizzes.

The third day of this course will take place at a training facility. During this portion of the course, students will practice Phlebotomy techniques like using the vacutainer system, syringes and butterfly needles.

This course costs $799 and is offered frequently in the Dallas area.

Richland College

Any student who wants to fully prepare for certification as a Phlebotomy Technician with a comprehensive training program can do so at Richland College.

This Phlebotomy program includes 215 hours of classroom instruction and 120 hours of supervised clinical training at a local health care facility or lab.

This course is comprised of six classes: Medical Terminology I, CPR for Health Professionals, Human Disease / Pathophysiology, Phlebotomy, Phlebotomy II, and Clinical Phlebotomy. Tuition is $1250 plus the cost of books, uniforms and liability insurance.

In order to be enrolled in this program, students must have a high school diploma or GED, be at least 18 years old, be eligible to work in the US, provide proof of entry level college academic skills in reading, writing and basic math, show documentation or assessment of computer skills, complete an application packet and health evaluation, and be up to date with immunizations.
