ACI Career College offers an intense classroom phlebotomy training program that includes 160 didactic training hours and a minimum of 80 blood draws. The 40 hours of clinical training will occur within a CLIA laboratory, and in this training you will gain experience with specimen processing. The clinical experience as well as the classroom experience is designed to provide students with an in depth understanding of phlebotomy and prepare them to take a certification exam.

This program also trains students how to process urine specimen collections, throat cultures, tray set up, and more. The classroom modules can be completed in as little as 10 weeks and the certification exam is included in the course.

Allied Medical and Health Services Inc.

Allied Medical and Health Services Inc. offers a phlebotomy training program designed for non-licensed professionals, that consists of 98 hours (14.5 days) of training. This time is divided into lecture and laboratory/clinical hours, which are in place to provide students with an in depth understanding of phlebotomy both in the classroom and in a clinical environment.

In order to apply, students must pass an entrance examination for reading comprehension, and they must also pass a physical exam. Applicants should also have their high school diploma/GED equivalent as well as a driver’s license. Once enrolled in the course, students will study anatomy and physiology, safety procedures, how to retrieve blood, potential complications, and more.

During the 40 didactic hours and 58 hours of practical, students must complete 25 skin punctures and 50 successful venipunctures. Upon successfully completing the training, graduates become eligible to sit for a national certification exam.



Allied Professional Institute

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Technician 1 Training Program

The phlebotomy training course offered at the Allied Professional Institute consists of 80 hours (40 didactic and 40 clinical). During this time, students must perform 10 skin punctures and 50 venipunctures. Also keep in mind that this 80 hour program is for persons with less than 1,040 hours or no on-the-job experience. This institution also offers a 20 hour course that is designed for persons with at least 1,040 hours or more on-the-job experience. The course that you complete is dependent upon your needs, and both can lead to licensure.

Angeles College of Nursing

Angeles College of Nursing offers a certificate program that can help students to become a California certified phlebotomy technician. This program includes 40 hours of lecture and 40 hours of clinical, all to be taken within a 6 week period.

Some of the required courses include basic phlebotomy, advanced phlebotomy, and a clinical period. Upon the successful completion of this program, graduates become eligible to sit for a national certification exam which can help qualify them for employment in the healthcare industry.

This college also offers an advanced phlebotomy program which is for individuals that have more than 1,040 hours of on the job experience. This advanced program lasts for 3 weeks and includes 20 hours of lecture. This is a good option for those that are currently working in the medical field, but would like to train to become certified.



Bay Area Medical Academy

The phlebotomy training program offered at the California Institute of Medical Science is a 5 week course that is designed to provide students with the various skills that they will need to pursue a career as a phlebotomist. This curriculum is divided between 75 didactic hours and a 100 hour externship. The exposure to both concepts as well as techniques helps to prepare students for the numerous responsibilities that they will have as phlebotomists.

In order to apply, students must have either a high school diploma or a GED equivalent. In addition to these requirements, they must also have documentation of various vaccinations and a valid CPR card. While studying, students will learn how to withdraw blood, how to effectively enforce infection control, how to perform vital measurements, and more.

California Nurses Educational Institute

The California Nurses Educational Institute offers a phlebotomy training program that consists of 40 hours of classroom theory and 40 hours of clinical training. The hands-on training occurs in a clinical facility under the supervision of a phlebotomy instructor that has been approved by the Department of Licensing and Certification. In order to successfully complete training, students must complete the entire 80 hours successfully. Upon completing the training and passing the final examination, graduates will receive a certificate of completion and become eligible to sit for a national certification exam.

The curriculum of this option teaches students how to collect blood, find hidden veins, make informed decisions, and more. These skills can make graduates eligible for employment in hospitals, laboratories, clinics, and residential care facilities.

Clinical Training Institute offers a phlebotomy program that consists of a minimum of 40 hours of clinical training and 64 hours of didactic training, during which time, students must complete 50 venipunctures and 10 skin punctures. Also, students must pass a written certification exam from an organization approved by the California Department of Health to successfully become licensed.

This program is design specifically to prepare students for licensure and for the national certification exam. The skill set and curriculum is included for very specific purposes and their intentions lie in providing students with the skills and knowledge that they will need to seek and obtain employment. The tuition of this program can be paid in full or you can choose to make a deposit which will hold your spot. If you choose to pay the deposit online, you must pay the remaining balance in person.



Complete Phlebotomy Training, Inc.

In order to apply, you must have either a high school diploma or a GED. Upon being accepted into the program, you can begin paying the tuition for this program. The total cost of the basic class, advanced class, and clinical class is $2,025.00, and there is a non-refundable registration fee of $275 which covers the textbook, all handout materials, lab coat, clinical supplies, and hazardous waste fees.

Upon successfully completing this program, students become eligible to sit for a national certification exam, which (if completed successfully) enables them to seek employment as a phlebotomist.



Computer Institute of Technology

The phlebotomy training program offered at Diablo Medical Training consists of 120 hours and upon completion, graduates become eligible to sit for a national certification exam. The curriculum is divided into two parts: 40 hours of in-school didactic training (approximately seven weeks), and 80 hours of clinical externship. This school serves the northern state of California region of: Alameda County (East), Contra Costa County (All), San Joaquin County (West), Solano County (All), Sacramento County (South), and Stanislaus County (East).

Emsta College offers a 120 hour phlebotomy training program that can be completed in five weeks. After completing the 60 hours of classroom and lab training, students will then take the NCCT exam. In order to apply, students must: be at least 18 years of age, have a High School Diploma, Certificate of Completion, or GED, have U.S citizenship or an equivalent I.D. and social security number, and they must also be CPR certified.
