The Venipuncture/ Phlebotomy Training Program at the Community College of Baltimore County is made up of two courses: Venipuncture & Specimen Collection Techniques and Venipuncture and Specimen Collection Clinical.

The first course teaches students the theory behind venipuncture and other methods of specimen collection and allows students to practice these skills in a classroom lab setting. Students will learn how to collect blood and bodily fluids, perform throat cultures, and prepare samples for testing in the lab. They will also be taught an overview of anatomy and physiology and how to safely handle specimens.

The second course is a clinical component that will be completed in a real health care setting. Students will gain hands on training in venipuncture under supervision.

Doctor’s Help is a medical training company that offers various health care workshops in all 50 states and Washington, DC. Since the company is based in Maryland, they often offer workshops in the Baltimore area, but since the course schedule at Doctor’s Help varies, students who are interested in completing this course should check for upcoming workshops on the Doctor’s Help website.

The phlebotomy workshop offered by Doctor’s Help meets either one night per week from 6 pm to 9 pm or on Saturdays from 10 am to 12:30 pm. The current cost of the Saturday phlebotomy workshop is just $50 plus fees, and payment plans are available.

Doctor’s Help also offers training in employment strategies and job search for those students who want to get started in the health care field.

Stein Academy is an accredited medical training facility that can help students take the first step toward a career in health care.

This facility offers a phlebotomy program at meets on evening and weekend schedules to meet the needs of busy students. The weekend program runs for six weeks and meets from 2:30 pm to 7:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Students who are enrolled in the phlebotomy technician program will learn how to collect specimens from patients and how to draw blood. They will practice various methods of collection and learn how to prepare specimens for testing.
