Auburn University

At Auburn University, you can receive the training that you will need to pursue a career in the medical industry. This is a 90 hour course, and upon completion, you can arrange a free clinical rotation which can help improve your chances of becoming certified and obtaining employment.

In order to attend this program, you should have either a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and be willing to pay the $1,299.00 tuition. The curriculum of this training program includes: proper specimen collection, processing and handling of specimens, laboratory law, ethics, and regulatory issues, anatomy and physiology, safety procedures, and more. In addition to the lessons, students will also participate in clinical lab exercises that will help to perfect their ability to retrieve and handle specimens.

Calhoun Community College

Calhoun Community College offers a phlebotomy certificate training program that can be completed in just one semester! The program consists of on campus labs, a clinical site rotation, and online theory. These various approaches are designed to provide students with a thorough knowledge of phlebotomy techniques, safety precautions, and an overall understanding of the expectations that employers will have. You will learn skills such as: how to accurately log specimens into the clinical lab information system, and how to collect blood specimens via venipuncture.

In order to apply, you must have a documentation of CPR certification and an unconditional admission to the college, as well as the phlebotomy application packet. If you are accepted into the program, there is a mandatory orientation session that will take place before the first class.



DCH School of Phlebotomy

Programs Offered: DCH Phlebotomy Program

The phlebotomy program offered here is a 9 week full-time program that results in certification. The total cost of this program (including the certification exam) is $668.00, and must be paid in full prior to the first day of class.

Once enrolled, this curriculum will provide students with a plethora of skills that can be utilized in the medical field. The training is designed to teach students how to use venipuncture (as well as other collection techniques), how to advocate the principles of patient dignity, esteem, and compassion, and how to obtain specimens while following the proper safety precautions.

The phlebotomy training course offered at Gadsden State Community College consists of one course (CLT 100 Phlebotomy), and requires 15 hours of lecture and 45 hours of clinical experience. This training can be completed in five weeks or less, and will provide students with a wide variety of medical skills that can help them to find employment in the medical field.

In addition to the $220.00 tuition, students must also pay for textbooks, uniforms and shoes, physical examination, health insurance etc. Upon completing the training, students can expect to know how to: process specimens for delivery to appropriate departments, observe all safety regulations, label specimens correctly, and more. These skills will also be necessary for those that wish to become certified, or pursue a higher education in the medical field.



Jefferson State Community College

Programs Offered: Phlebotomy Training Program

This program consists of a 200-hour curriculum that utilizes both classroom lectures and clinical settings to prepare students for the demands of a career in the healthcare industry. In order to apply, students should have a high school diploma or a GED, as well as the successful completion of a reading assessment.

The tuition for this program is $999.00, and is also associated with additional fees of approximately $350.00. The clinical portion of this training will take place at various locations during business hours, so please ensure that your schedule permits such availability. While enrolled in the program, students are subject to random drug tests.

The short-term training option offered at Northeast Community College consists of ten total hours, and upon the successful completion of training, graduates are awarded a certificate. The curriculum consists of MAT125 (3 hours), MAT 215 (3 hours), MAT 239 (3 hours), and EMS 100 (1 hour). These separate classes are designed to provide a medical assisting certificate, specifically geared towards an in depth understanding of phlebotomy.

The phlebotomy focus of this curriculum ensures that students are eligible to become certified as both a medical assistant and phlebotomist. The short-term training may be convenient for those that wish to fulfill their requirements; however those that are looking for a longer, more intense training option may find other options better suited to their needs.

Before enrolling in the program, applicants must be screened to ensure that they are eligible for employment as a medical professional. This screening includes a background check and drug screening, and of course, a payment from the student to cover costs.

Upon the completion of this short term certificate, graduates will have earned a certificate in phlebotomy which can improve one’s chance of obtaining employment. The fee for this program is $1,587.50 plus $11.50 insurance fee. The tuition also covers the cost of textbooks as well as the exam fee.
